NDDS

Novel drugs are innovative products that address unmet medical needs and enhance patient care. Novel drug delivery systems (NDDS) improve drug administration efficiency, reduce costs, and provide better therapeutic outcomes. Various NDDS classifications include controlled release systems, micro-encapsulation, and targeted delivery systems.

What is novel drug

Novel drug are often innovative product

that serve previously unmet medical
need or otherwise significantly help to
advance patient care and public health.
Novel drug delivery system is for delivery of drug other than
conventional drug delivery system.
NDDS refers to the approaches, formulations technolies and system for
transporting drug in the body as needed to safely achieve its desired
therapeutic effects.

Classification
1. Controlled release drug delivery system (CRDDS)
2. Micro-encapsulation
3. Muco-adhesive drug delivery system(MDDS)
4. Implantable drug delivery system (IDDS)
5. Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS)
6. Gastro-retentive drug delivery system (GRDDS)

Controlled release drug delivery system (CRDDS)
Matrix diffusion type:
Dissolution matrix type
Encapsulation
Dissolution and diffusion controlled release system
Osmotic pressure Controlled system
Chemically ontrolled system
Hydro-gel
Ion exchange resins ontrolled release system
Micro-encapsulation
Micro-spheres
Microspheres are polymeric micron range spherical particles that can be used as drug carriers wherein the drug can be
encapsulated or is in entrapped form.

Micro-capsules
Microcapsules are small spheres with deposition of a thin polymer coating onto small solid particles or liquid droplets, or on
dispersion of solids in liquids.

Micro-particles
These are spherical particles of 1-1000um size that serve as multi-unit drug delivery system with well-defined physiological and
pharmaco-kinetic benefits in order to improve the effectiveness, tolerability and patient compliance
