What is Beauty?
Beauty is both a perception and a feeling—it can be
physical, emotional, or spiritual. At its core, beauty is the
quality that brings pleasure, admiration, or deep
appreciation, whether through appearance, character,
nature, or art
Combination of qualities that give pleasure to the sense
or to the mind.
Pleasing or attractive features

The Skin
The outside of the body is completely
covered by a thin layer of material,
called the SKIN.
It is the largest single organ of the
human body.
16
FUNCTIONS OF THE SKIN are it:
- Gives protection
- Conserves moisture
- Removes waste products
- Regulates body heat
- Acts as an organ of touch
- Absorbs vitamin ‘D’ on exposure to
sunlight.
17
Skin color
The color of the skin is due to
pigments in the epidermis and dermis.
These are:
* Carotene - A yellowish pigment
* Melanin - Gives brown Colour
18
Skin types
• The five basic types of skin are
Normal
Dry
Oily
Combination
Sensitive.
19
CARE OF THE SKIN is through Washing
and Bathing
Why do we need to wash?
ØTo remove Surface grease
Ø To remove surface dirt
Ø To remove bacteria
Ø To keep our self respect
Ø To give a feeling of freshness and well-
being
Ø To remove stale sweat and makes us
nice to near.
Ø To rub away unwanted skin cells
(exfoliate)
20
Normal skin
• Normal skin is the baseline for skin type; genetically and
environmentally speaking, skin is well balanced and able to
function at its peak level.
• Skin care tips for normal skin
• Normal skin has the lowest maintenance of the five types, but
still requires daily attention to keep skin looking its best. Those
with normal skin should take precautions to avoid the development
of blemishes and other skin issues.
• Cleanse daily to avoid buildup of dirt, pollutants and other bacteria
which can lead to acne
• Apply a broad spectrum sunscreen daily to protect skin from
photoaging
• Exfoliate as needed for ideal skin texture
• In dry conditions, or for mature skin, moisturize daily or as needed,
to maintain normal skin conditions.
21
Dry skin
• Dry skin indicates a lack of moisture or natural oils in the skin, while oily skin is
the result of an overproduction of natural oils. Sensitive skin is due to a reduced
epidermal barrier function, while combination skin exhibits both oily and normal to
dry areas.
• Dry Skin Type
• Dry skin can be by issues with the skin’s natural moisture barrier, or by
external factors such as cold weather and excessive washing.
• Dry skin exists on a scale. While it is universally characterized by its rough
texture, it may begin to flake, peel or even crack depending on the severity. If your
skin is constantly dry, and shows signs of cracking or bleeding, you have severely
dry skin and may want to consult a dermatologist.
• In addition to texture, this skin type often appears dull with some redness and
itching. On a positive note, dry skin is characterized by small pores and is usually
not acne-prone.
• Skin care tips for dry skin
• As harsh cleansers and astringents can exacerbate the symptoms of dry skin,
choose gentle products and rich moisturizers instead.
• Use nonabrasive cleansers and cleansing techniques
• Use rich moisturizing products as needed
22
EQUIPMENTS FOR WASHING include
but not limited to the following
· Sponge
· Nail Brush
· Soap
· Pumice (Stone)
· antiseptic
· Body wash or gel
· Hair Shampoo, etc
23
Simple hygienic practices to make a
habit of:-
Boil your sponge for 5 minutes every week. this will help
kill germs in it.
Change your toothbrush every 3-4 months.
Never share makeup utensils.
brushes weekly
Washing your makeup application
or monthly depending on how often
you use them.
24
Good quality Soap is not
normally harmful to the skin.
Soap could be harmful to the
skin if it contains free alkali (that
is caustic soda), which was not
completely changed during the
saponification process.
Know the best type of soap that
fits your own specific skin type.
25
SPECIAL PROBLEMS
q Personal freshness
q ACNE (PIMPLE)
q SUNTAN (SUN BURN)
q ECZEMA
q RINGWORM
26
PERSONAL FRESHNESS
Perspiration (sweating) is a
natural and necessary process. It
Has no smell itself, but when it
reaches the surface of the skin,
it is acted upon by bacteria and
begins to decompose and this is
what causes an unpleasant smell
to develop.
27
The sweat glands in the ARMPIT, FEET
and PALMS of the hands are more
active during exercise or emotional
stress and these are responsible for
what we have come to know as B.O.
(BODY ODOUR)
28
What can we do about body Odour?
ü Hands can be easily washed
as often as necessary
ü Armpits are the worst
offenders, and here we need to
consider two possible types of
treatment:
29
1. If you sweat heavily, use an
antiperspirant. This reduces
sweating and protects your
fabrics
2. If you sweat lightly, Body
Odour can be prevented by the
use of deodorants. This contains
antiseptics, which prevent
bacterial action. 30
NOTE:
It is important to follow the
manufacturers directives when
using your chosen deodorants or
antiperspirants. Some fabrics
may be damaged if you put on
your clothes before the
deodorant or antiperspirant is
dry.
31
ACNE
ü Another word for it is PIMPLE.
ü Bacterial action on our skin
graduates into pimples
32
How do the spots form?
Acne is caused when the
sebaceous glands become over
active and produce too much
Sebum (oil). This causes the
opening of the pores to become
blocked and swollen. Bacteria on
the surface of the skin then cause
a septic spot to develop.
33
Dos and Don’ts for Acne
DO
ü Keep your face, sponge and
towels clean.
ü Eat meat, fish, eggs, cheese,
milk, fruits and vegetables.
ü Use the special medicated
creams and lotions now
available.
34
DO NOT
ü Squeeze the spots.
ü Touch the spots with your
fingers.
ü Eat fried foods, Cakes, Pastry,
Sweets, or chocolates.
ü Worry about spots, others
have
them too; they will clear up
after a while.

There is no doubt that attractive hair is
a woman’s crowning glory and one over
which she takes a good deal of time
and trouble. Keeping your hair well
groomed and attractive is a top priority
for every woman.
39
Unwanted Hairs
However, hair grows on other parts of
the body, which may be removed if we
must look attractive.
40
FOR:
v Heavy growth of hair under the
armpits, use shaving sticks or razor
specially made for the purpose.
v Heavy growth of hair on the legs,
shaving is not recommended. Use creams
and lotions specially made for that
purpose.
v Chin beards can also be removed by
any of the above means.
NOTE:
Do not use antiperspirants or deodorants
immediately after removing hair from the
armpits. 41

1. PATIENCE
2. TOLERANCE

54
Try To Have Good Thoughts
• Worry, anxiety, hatred and mistrust play havoc with
emotional and physical health affecting your career
as well as the airline you work for.
• Don’t dwell on ugly thoughts, whenever they make
an entry into your mind; quickly switch over to some
constructive thinking.
• Have a clean mind remove the unwanted thoughts
of envy, jealousy, humiliation, anger, disappointment
and sadness.
55
Take time for prayer and
meditation
Meditation is of tremendous value for maintaining mental and spiritual
health whether flying or not. Prayer and meditation are food for the
soul, strength for the body and health for the mind.
56
Kindness
• It is greatly lacking in today’s
world. A kind word or a helping
hand besides giving you inner
serenity, opens wide the
floodgates of goodwill and a
feeling of companionship to both
the giver and the receiver.
57
Alert and knowledgeable mind
• You need to develop a general interest
in what goes on around you by keeping
abreast with current news, the latest
fashions, the latest books and what
your airline is planning in the near
future or just the expansion plans of
the airline industry. Everybody loves
an intelligent and lively person; no one
cares for a dumb beauty.
58
Relaxation
•Fatigue and emotional disturbances
are potential killers of beauty. Chronic
worrying brings sleeplessness and in
its wake, wrinkles on your face.
Therefore, learn to relax at all times.
59
Pleasant voice
• It is a beauty asset which attracts
people. So, cultivate a soft, gentle
voice. Tone it with sincerity and
polish it to a pleasing pitch and see
that your conversation is always
pleasant.
• Be free from ugly gossip.
60
Health & makeup tips to note as a Cabin Crew
• Never sleep with make up on. Always clean your face with damp
cotton wool and cleansing milk before going to bed especially after a
long haul flight. It helps in keeping the glow on your face.
• Don’t retouch old lipstick. Clean the lips and put on a completely new
coat. This will look fresher and keep its original color better.
• Don’t wear pale lipstick if you have a problem skin, the blemishes will
show up darker than your lips. Also, if pale lipstick is worn over
discolored teeth, the teeth will look dirtier and yellower.
• Don’t eat too many chocolates. The cocoa flavoring stimulates oil glands
to become active and the high fat and sugar content encourages spots.
Try eating apples instead.
61
Health & makeup tips to note as a
Cabin Crew
• Eat lots of fruits and vegetables,
they are good for you body. Fruits
like oranges, grape fruits and
strawberries. Eat them but don’t
overeat them.
62
63
Health & makeup tips to note as a
Cabin Crew
Don’t drink fizzy drinks (carbonated
drinks). They don’t quench thirst as
well as cold water, fruit juice or tea and
they are laden with sugar. Cola, like
chocolate contains cocoa extract and
therefore stimulates the oil glands to
over activity which can cause breakouts.
Health & makeup tips to note as a
Cabin Crew
Avoid taking more than two cups of coffee or tea during a day. Instead,
learn to take fruit juice - carrot or cucumber juice .
Don’t be a grease monkey.
Your skin will absorb the
nourishment it needs
within 20 minutes, so wipe
off the excess cream
especially when going to
bed.
64
Health & makeup tips to note as a Cabin
Crew
• Don’t use the bar of soap which you use for your body on your hair. Bar
soap is very damaging to the hair because it leaves an insoluble alkaline
film on the scalp even after the hair has been thoroughly rinsed. This
deposit can clog the hair and oil openings in your scalp and its drying
qualities may give rise to ugly dandruff. It is wiser to wash with good
shampoo instead.
• You should not use the same soap you use for your body for your face
also.
65
Health & makeup tips to note as a Cabin
Crew
• Don’t use marketed hair oils on your hair.
They contain white oil which gives rise to
premature grey heads. For the same
reason, don’t use hair dyes, they not only
contain harmful chemicals which cause
harm to the scalp and to the skin, but also
once discontinued it will give you a full
head of grey hair.
66
Health & makeup tips to note as a
Cabin Crew
• Looking young is an essential part of the flight attendant
career to keep you in the aviation industry. Dry skin is
the chief cause of facial wrinkles. Dry skin requires
constant attention over a period of months to turn it
into a supple skin.
• Besides correct diet and outer maintenance of the skin
you must also exercise your facial muscles. With regular
face lifting exercise you can easily cheat on those
wrinkles.

68
Shaving even for sensitive skin
• Shave right after taking a warm shower.
Once out of the shower, thoroughly wet
your face with warm water. The steam and
water will soften up your beard.
• Massage a shave oil or cream into your
beard. Don't worry about a bunch of
lather - it's not doing anything if it isn't
touching your skin! Give the product
about 30 seconds to sink in and reactivate
if necessary with a splash of water.
69
Shaving even for sensitive skin
• Using a clean, multi-bladed
razor, begin shaving with the
grain of hair growth. Use short
strokes, rinsing the blade often.
• Use your free hand to stretch
your skin, creating a smooth
surface for the razor.
• Only go against the grain at the
end to get stubborn hairs.
70
Shaving even for sensitive skin
• Rinse your face thoroughly with cool water to
cleanse the skin and close the pores. If needed, pat
your face with a soft towel.
• Generously apply a balm or moisturizing aftershave.
Steer clear of any aftershave containing alcohol,
which will hurt like a crazy and dry your skin out.

– and for some people this is easier said

background and therefore have some
excellent experience that will help you
move forward in your quest to become
cabin crew – but that’s only the tip of

HAIR LOSS
Causes could be :-
1. illness, 2. stress, 3. hereditary, 4. medication.
Try to do the following:
• Don’t wear extremely tight-fitting baseball caps.
• Chill out! Stressing will lead to more hair loss.
• When shampooing, gently massage your scalp to
increase circulation.
• Be gentle when towel drying your hair.
• Change your pillow case weekly.
When all else fails, shave it off and go bald.
73
To manicure your own nails
• Soak your hands in warm water to soften the nails
• Clean beneath the nails with a clean metal file
• Trim the nails with a clipper to leave a thin white strip at the
end. Start in the middle then round off the sides
74
• Smooth the edges of your
nails using a nail file. Just go
one way… not back and forth
• Gently push back your
cuticles (if you don't know
what these are, ask a woman)
using a cuticle stick. Don't cut
them.

Caring for your skin
• The number one piece of advice
from skincare experts and

plenty of water – before, during
and after flights
• Try and introduce as much
Vitamin A into your daily diet.
