I- definition of stress
• Stress can be defined as a physical, emotional, or mental
response to external factors (stressors) perceived as
threatening or exceeding our coping abilities.
• 1. Causes of Stress
The causes of stress can vary and differ from person to person.
They may include major life events such as job changes, loss of a
loved one, relationship conflicts, as well as daily factors such as
work demands, financial concerns, and academic pressures.
• 2. Symptoms of Stress and Impact
Stress symptoms can be physical (headaches, sleep disturbances,
backaches), emotional (anxiety, irritability, depression), and
behavioral (increased substance use, compulsive behaviors).
Over the long term, chronic stress can contribute to the
development of mental and physical health problems such as
anxiety, depression, cardiovascular diseases, and gastrointestinal
disorders.
