Heat Stress Awareness: Working Safely in Hot Conditions
• Recognize the Signs: Learn the symptoms of heat stress—fatigue, dizziness, excessive
sweating, headache, nausea, and confusion.
• Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water regularly—at least one cup every 15–20 minutes
during hot work. Avoid caffeine and energy drinks.
• Use Rest Breaks: Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas to cool down.
• Wear Appropriate PPE: Use lightweight, breathable clothing and PPE suited for hot
environments.
• Acclimatize New Workers: Gradually increase exposure to heat for new or returning
workers.
• Report Symptoms Early: Immediately report if you or a co-worker show signs of heat-
related illness.
• Monitor High-Risk Workers: Extra care should be taken for those with medical conditions
or who are new to the job.
• Use Buddy System: Work in pairs so help is nearby if someone begins to show signs of
heat stress.
• Schedule Smartly: Perform heavy tasks during cooler parts of the day—early morning or
late evening.
• Practice Good Housekeeping: Keep work areas clean and clear to improve airflow and
reduce heat.
