CULTURE
• Clothing- The most frequently used clothing is the kimono it is a long silk dress.
However, many of the models are shorter, called "haori". The kimono can be worn
open, to be used as a night dress, or tied with an obi. It is traditionally used, always
with the left side on the right. Only in death this order is reversed. Every kimono
varies in length and there are silk models for men and women, rayon, synthetic, fiber,
linen and wool.
• The obi is the track that is tied around a kimono. It can be tied in simple or very
elaborate ways. Being quite wide, some take up to half an hour to be tied
• One way to classify kimonos is by the type of occasion on which they are used.
• The "tomesode" is the ceremonial vest worn by married women, it has the "mon" or
symbol of the family, and at the bottom an elaborate garment. It is used with an obi
that contains gold or silver lines.
• One way to classify kimonos is by the type of occasion on which they are used.
CULTURE
• Shoes-Geta is a traditional Japanese sandal style with smooth wooden sole, hanao
(strip) between the "V" fingers, and the sole is on one or two wooden platforms.
These platforms are called ha (tooth), and the sole of the sandal is usually
rectangular, with strips centered. So, the sandals are identical, regardless of the side
of the feet. The strips of some models cover the fingers to protect them. Used on a
day-to-day basis, it is about 5 cm high and is sometimes called ashida, or sandals for
rain, most commonly used by men. The highest ones are used, for example, by
sushimen, to keep your feet away from contact with possible traces of fish that fall to
the ground when preparing the sushi.
