•Plural subject + plural verb
• Example: The dog's bark.
•Identifying singular and plural

forms
COMPOUND SUBJECTS
• Subjects joined by "and" usually take a plural verb.
• Example: John and Mary are going.
• Exceptions: When the compound subject is a single
entity.
• Example: Mac and cheese is my favorite.

COLLECTIVE NOUNS
• Collective nouns (team, family, committee) can be singular or
plural.
• Singular when acting as a unit.
• Example: The team is playing well.
• Plural when individuals are emphasized.
• Example: The team are arguing about strategy. (British
English)

INDEFINITE PRONOUNS
• Some are always singular (each, everyone, nobody).
• Example: Everyone is ready.
• Some are always plural (both, few, several).
• Example: Several were invited.
• Some can be singular or plural (some, all, none)
depending on the context.
• Example: All of the pie is gone. All of the pies are

gone.
"THERE IS" VS. "THERE ARE"
• Use "there is" with singular nouns.
• Example: There is a cat on the roof.
• Use "there are" with plural nouns.
• Example: There are cats on the roof.

TRICKY SITUATIONS: INTERVENING PHRASES

agreement.
