Leadership
Leadership can be defined in many different aspects. First, according to
Yaakob (1989), the leadership needs to involve others. In other words
subordinate or follower.
The following subordinated willingness to accept direction from the leader,
the group helped in establishing the status of leader and leadership have made
the process can be realized.
Second, the leadership also involves unequal distribution of power among
the leaders as well as members of the group. This means that the manager has
the authority to lead his team.
Third, the leadership can be defined in education as the ability to influence,
motivate, and change the attitude and behavior of subordinate such as
teachers, staff and students to carry out activities or programs that have been
established to achieve school goals. (Yahya Don, 2005).
In other words, leadership cannot be separated from subordinated and
subordinated opinion should be viewed and evaluated to obtain the results of
a thorough and effective
Leadership
Leadership is a vital management function that helps to direct an
organization's resources for improved efficiency and the
achievement of goals.
Effective leaders provide clarity of purpose, motivate and guide the
organization to realize its mission.
Types of Leadership Styles
Autocratic.
Democratic.
Laissez-faire.
Transformational.
…Cont.
"Leadership is an intangible quality with no definition.
That's probably a good thing, because if the people being
led knew the definition, they would hunt down their leaders
and kill them." Scott Adams.
Transformative leaders need to have a clear vision, a
sound thematic knowledge base and have the skills to
drive change. Leadership is about managing change and
guiding growth in fluid environments. Leadership requires
a 'change capable culture' that gives space to lead.
Most Important Qualities of a
Leader
They are self-aware and prioritize personal development.
They focus on developing others.
They encourage strategic thinking, innovation, and action.
They are ethical and civic-minded.
They practice effective cross-cultural communication.
The TVET Leadership and Management Development
Programme trains principals and senior staff in modern
management and leadership practices, to ensure that the
institutions. which they lead can effectively deliver quality
education and training

Transformational Leadership
Actions that exceed one’s own self-interests with the purpose of
empowering, inspiring, and challenging others to achieve a higher

Laissez Faire
Non-leadership
The four behaviors of
transformational leadership
Idealized Influence
Idealized influence takes place when leaders foster trust and respect
among others, and model ethically desirable behaviors through the
demonstration of personally held beliefs.
“You believe in something, you stand up for it, you try to pull
together a team of people who can be inspired by that same vision,
and then help encourage people to add value by putting their unique
talents to the task - and you treat everybody with respect, no matter
what role they’re playing.” - Rick
Hansen
Inspirational Motivation
Inspirational motivation involves the communication of high
expectations, through which leaders inspire and energize others to
achieve their goals.
Encourage mentees to leave their comfort zones and explore their
abilities
Example: As a mentor, be aware of the opportunities and events
available to your mentee. This will enable you to provide your
mentee
with valuable information about all of the possible activities they
can participate in.
Intellectual Stimulation
Intellectual stimulation involves encouraging others to see issues
from multiple perspectives, and question their own and others’
commonly held assumptions.
Individualized Consideration
Individualized consideration takes place when leaders respond to
the personal and psychological needs of others, and display a
genuine sense of care and concern.
"It was not just affability or good manners or his physical
appearance.
But a genuine capacity for empathy, for interesting himself in the
circumstances of other people." -Tom Lodge
SMART Goals

Measurable
Action-Oriented
Realistic (but challenging)
Time-based Important for you!
Challenges of TVET
Leaders should understand the existing challenges of working
environments
Lack of modern pedagogical skills
Lack of methodological skills in the context of an learning
outcome based TVET
Lack of applying modern didactical and training delivery method
Lack of application of competency based assessment (CBA)
Lack of technical skills
Lack of adequate facilities
…Cont.
The quality assurance can cover only the institutional
management area; but not on the competency or learning
outcome yet
Lacking the involvement from industry
Lacking of communication strategy about quality assurance to
the society
Recommendation
We would like to propose the government and development partners for
taking on consideration, continuing support in particular:
1. Policy and regulations aimed at integrating the current TVET and training
systems to ensure they are focused on meeting labour market demands
2. Strengthening the mechanisms for government, industry and training
providers to review, analyse and make use of labour market information
3. Improve the teaching and learning environment of some TVET
Institutions (facilities, technical equipment)
4. Improve the quality and consistency of teaching and learning (upgrading
the technical and pedagogy skills and knowledge of teachers)

Importance of Strategic Planning
Strategic planning provides organizational direction through the
development of the institution’s desired future.(Example-10/5 Year
strategic plan/
Strategic planning focuses on the future and the interaction of the
institution with its ever-changing environment( Environmental Scanning-
internal & External).
Through such planning, an organization can shed its status present
situation mentality and exercise creativity in the act of managing and
decision-making.
Institutional stakeholders begin to recognize opportunities and threats in
the environment, thereby fostering an atmosphere of innovation.
