INTRODUCTION:

E-mail it is a system used for creating, sending and storing textual data in the digital form over a network. Its a way to keep in touch with friends, get information start relationships or express your opinion. We have got the opportunity to communicate with people nearby and around the world in a relatively quick and efficient manner.

MEANING:

Simply put email means Electronic mail . Its the process of sending and receiving message over the Internet.

E-MAIL HISTORY:

E-mail system first used in Army field. Later on 1969 it was used in scientific method at ARPANET ( Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). Mailbox used at massachusetts institute of technology from 1965.

WORKING WITH EMAIL:

Email works on the Internet:An Internet email address looks like this user name @ domain name.

*Send an Email message:Email is sent and received through electronic Post Offices knows as mail servers. Every email program will give you a way to create a new message. An email address consists of the username C C (Carbon Copy). Sends a copy to another persons. BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) sends a copy to another person but from the other recipients person but hidden from the other recepients. This elements mail be present for e mail to be sent.

Receive an e mail message:When you go to you account you will find a list of message in your inbox. You will also be able to view one of those message automatically you do not have to open the message to view it.

Attach a file to an e mail message:E-mail gives you the ability to attach complete. Files for high speed delivery anywhere in the world. Files can be photo graphs, music, letters, text format etc.

MAILING BASICS: When using an email program it is a helpful to become

familiar with the basics. In this lesson we will give you an overview of the various email windows. And various terms actions and features that are commonly used when working with email.

The E mail window:When using email you will interact with several windows including the Inbox window the Email message window and the compose message window. These are windows may look and feel different but the way they functions is essentially the same.

INBOX WINDOW:

The Inbox is where you can view all of the incoming emails you have received e mails are listed with the name of the sender the subject of the message and the date received.

E MAIL MESSAGE WINDOW:An e mail message consists of three components The message header The message body, The message envelope. The message header Header structured into fields such as From, To, CC, Subject, BCC.

From:- is e mail address. To:- To contains the e mail address of the recipients. CC:- Short for Carbon Copy This box allows you to copy a person on an e mail that you are sending to some one else. Subject:- Subject contains the main topic of the message. BCC:- Blind Carbon Copy contains the e mail addresses of other recipients. Who receive copies but their names and addresses are hidden from the other receipients.

The message body


The text of the original e mail appears in the body of the reply usually marked in a different font or color, or with a special special character. Such as the greater than sign (>) at the beginning of each line.

The message envelope:To read an e mail, double click on the envelope icon or the subject line of the message.

COMPOSE MESSAGE WINDOW:

The compose message to create an email message of your own. You will need to enter the recipients email address and a subject and uploading digital files (photo, documents etc) and formatting the text in your message.

USEFUL E-MAIL SERVICE:

E-mail services offer easy access and storage of e mail messages for users. E mail is one of the basic Internet service online e mail services- online e mail services providers enable users to send receive and review e mail from their web browsers. Webmail services:- A webmail accessed and operated from a website. Some of the more popular online email services are yahoo mail, Gmail., Hotmail, etc. E mail service that gives unlimited storage, fast search pop access and an interface easy as a desktop e mail program. An email response management service (ERMS) Is a set of programs that automatically handles e mail message and attachments according to user defined rules. E mail service includes rich secure and password protect. The written documents carried by an intermediary from one person place to another person.

ADVANTAGES OF E MAIL:

Speed:- An e mail message is delivered instantly and anywhere across the globe. With in minutes thus a lot of time is saved. Use of graphics:- colorful greeting cards and interesting pictures can be sent through emails. Environment friendly:- postal mails use paper as a medium to send letters. Electronic mail therefore prevents alarge number of trees from getting axed it also saves the fuel needed for transportation. Advertising tool:- now a days many individuals and companies are using the email service to advertise their products service etc.
Data storage:- The providers of e mail service offer enough space for data storage also the process of sorting and arranging mails as per the subject, data etc, is made quite
easy for users.

DISADVANTAGES OF E MAIL:

Viruses:-These are computer programs which have the potential


to harm a computer system. Viruses copy themselves and further infect the computer. Recipients need to scan the mails since, viruses are transmitted through them and have the potential to harm computer systems.

Internet Access is Required:-There are many parts of the


world where people don't have access to the Internet. The email doesn't serve any purpose in such areas.

Need to check the inbox regularly: In order to stay


updated, one has to check his email account regularly.

Not suitable for business: Since the content posted via


emails is considered informal, there is a chance of business documents going unnoticed. Thus, urgent transactions and especially those requiring signatures are not managed through emails.

PROTOCOLS:

What is a protocols? Protocol is a set of rules. A protocol is a standard method which enables. Communication between processes. ( Potentially running on different machines) a collection of rules and procedures.

S M T P :- S M T P is short for Simple Mail Transfer


Protocol. A protocol used for sending e mails from one server to another. It can only be used to send e mail message.

I C M P Protocol:- Internet Control Message Protocol is a which makes it possible to manage information relating to errors on networked machines.

S N M P Protocol:- S N M P Means simple Network


management protocol. It is a protocol which enables network administrators to manage network devices and diagnose network problems.

P O P:- Pop stands of Post Office Protocol and is a protocol that is used to receive e mail

I M A P:-This stands for Internet Message Accesses


Protocol. This is an email service that enables you to access your email client and your pop e mail account from different locations and different computers.

FIP : File Transfer Protocol


Telnet Protocol:- The Telnet protocol is a standard internet protocol enabling terminals and applications to interface over the Internet this protocol provides the basic rules

NEWS GROUPS
A Newsgroup is an Internet based discussion about a particular topic. These topics range from sports, investing, teen problems Accessing newsgroups:To view and post messages to a newsgroup you need a newsreader. A newsreader is a program that connects you to a news server on the Internet.

E mail client may be a newsreader Some web browsers such as internet explorer and netscape come with newsreaders

TYPES OF NEWSGROUPS:

Binary Newsgroups:Binary newsgroup are strictly for posting binary files. Binary files are non textual files most often programs graphics. Music or multimedia content in compressed formats

* Moderated newsgroups:A moderated newsgroup has one or more individuals who must approve articles before they are posted at large. A separate address is used for the submission of posts . The first newsgroups appeared in 1984 under mod according to RFC 2235 Hobbes Internet Timeline.

The newsgroup administrator of a news server decides how long articles are kept on his server. Different servers will have different retention times for the same newsgroup some may keep articles for as little as one or two weeks others may hold them for many months. There are currently well over 100.000 usenet newsgroups but only 20.000 or so of these are active. Newsgroups very in popularity with some newsgroups only getting a few posts a month.

HOW NEWSGROUPS WORK:

Newsgroup servers are hosted by various organizations and institutions. Most (internet service providers) host their own (news server) or rent access. To one for their subscribers. There are also a number of companies who sell access to premium news servers. Every host of a news server maintains agreements with other news servers to regularly synchronize. When a user posts to one news server the message is stored locally. That server then shares the message with the servers that are connected to it if both carry the newsgroup and from those servers to servers that they are connected to

CONCLUSION:

Now a days e mail or electronic mail plays an major role in general purpose and now it including education field also present days every teachers and students have its own e mail address and working through the e mail totally e mail is a very good way for excluding our thoughts feelings and ideas through the e mail.
