INTRODUCTION
Amasonry foundation is a structural foundation made from masonry. The purpose of a masonry foundation is to support the weight of a structure while distributing the weight across subsurface strata, and to act as an anchor to keep the structure in place.
Brick work in foundation is done to transfer the load of super structure to the ground. The width of the brick work in foundation is taken according to the load coming on it. The load of super structure is divided into various steps of brick works in foundation below plinth level. Care may be taken that all steps should accommodate in the 3/29/12 ground. The foundation should be made
Masonry foundations are established in the form of perimeter or pier foundations. A perimeter foundation follows the footprint of the structure, with the weight being transferred evenly across the entire perimeter. Pier foundations consist of a series of masonry piers scattered across the footprint to support the weight, which is typically transferred by posts. Perimeter foundations are generally preferred in new construction. to make sure that the

TYPES OF FOOTINGS
Footing requirements are generally covered in the building code and sized in accordance with the bearing capacity of the soil and the weight of the building. In areas subject to seasonal frost, the bottom of the footing must be placed below the frost line to prevent damage to the footing and structure due to frost heave. Typical footing types include: - spot footings - continuous spread footing - grade beam footing

DPC
Damp Proof Courses. DPC's are barriers to the passage of water and moisture. At Low Level, for stability use a minimum of 2 courses (150mm). At High Level, always use a DPC beneath coping and capping courses, which must be at least the width of the wall, be sandwiched within the mortar and have the ability to adhere to the mortar (use a high-bond bitumen polymer type DPC). Polyethylene DPCs should be avoided as they do not bond with the mortar. 3/29/12
A barrel vault, also known as a tunnel vault or a wagon vault, is an architectural element formed by the extrusion of a single curve (or pair of curves, in the case of a pointed barrel vault) along a given distance. The curves are typically circular in shape, lending a semi-cylindrical appearance to the total design. The barrel vault is the simplest form of a vault: effectively a series of arches placed side by side, i.e., one after another. It is a form of barrel roof.
UNDERGROUND ARCHES
3/29/12
As with all arch-based constructions, there is an outward thrust generated against the walls underneath a barrel vault. There are several mechanisms for absorbing this thrust. One is, of course, to make the walls exceedingly thick and strong this is a primitive and sometimes unacceptable method. A more elegant method is to build two or more 3/29/12 vaults parallel to each
Barrel vaults are known from Ancient Egypt, and were used extensively in Roman architecture. They were also used to replace the Cloaca Maxima with a system of underground sewers. Early barrel vault designs occur in northern Europe, Turkey, Morocco and other regions. In medieval Europe the barrel vault was an important element of stone 3/29/12

If part of a footer settles and part does not, a stairstep Z-crack will work its way down the foundation wall.
Settlement or shifting of the ground under the footing is one of the major causes of foundation failure. This crawl-space foundation, which used to be continuous, is breaking apart (as is the sidewalk next to it).
The brick foundation of this house is tilting forward. In an attempt to prevent its collapse, the owner drove metal pipes into the ground next to the foundation and patched up the Z-crack at the corner. In the close-up photo you can see that the house has separated from the foundation so much that someone has been able to run an extension cord between the two.
