What is a Plural Noun?
Singular vs Plural
● Singular means one (cat, book,
apple).
● Plural means more than one
(cats, books, apples). Example:
We use plural nouns to talk about ● One camel → Two camels
many people, places, animals, or
things.
Why Do We Use Plural Nouns?
Plural Nouns in Everyday
Life
● Plural nouns help us talk about
more than one object.
● We use them every day when we
see or count things around us.
Example:
● There are five stars in the sky.
● I have three pencils in my bag.

The Most Common Plural Rule: Add -s
Just Add -s!
For most nouns, we make them plural
by adding -s at the end.
Examples:
● dog → dogs
● car → cars
● tree → trees
Try saying these plurals out loud!
When Do We Add -es?
Add -es to words ending in: Why?
● ss, s, x, z, ch, sh, o ● Adding -es makes the word
Examples: easier to say.
● bus → buses ● Listen: bus → buses, box →
● box → boxes boxes
Quick Look: Plural Endings
-scat → cats -esdish → dishes -eswatch → watches
Special Rule: Words Ending in -y
Change -y to -ies
If a word ends with a consonant + y,
change the y to i and add -es.
Examples:
● baby → babies
● story → stories
But if the word ends in a vowel + y,
just add -s (toy → toys).
