WHAT SHOULD
BE THE
CONDITION
OF OUR HEARTS?
11
Jesus continued: “There was a man
who had two sons. 12 The younger one
said to his father, ‘Father, give me my
share of the estate.’ So he divided
his property between them.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
13
“Not long after that, the younger son got
together all he had, set off for a distant
country and there squandered
his wealth in wild living.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
14
“After he had spent everything, there
was a severe famine in that whole
country, and he began to be in need.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
15
So he went and hired himself out
to a citizen of that country, who sent him
to his fields to feed pigs.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
16
He longed to fill his stomach with the
pods that the pigs were eating, but no one
gave him anything.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
17
“When he came to his senses, he said,
‘How many of my father’s hired men have
food to spare, and here I am starving
To death!
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
18
I will set out and go back to my father
and say to him: Father, I have sinned
against heaven and against you.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
19
I am no longer worthy to be called your
son; make me like one of your hired men.’
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
20
So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his
father saw him and was filled with
compassion for him; …
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
he ran to his son, threw his arms around him
and kissed him.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
21
“The son said to him, ‘Father, I have
sinned against heaven and against you.
I am no longer worthy to be called
your son.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
22
“But the father said to his servants,
‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it
on him. Put a ring on his finger and
sandals on his feet.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
23
Bring the fattened calf and kill it.
Let’s have a feast and celebrate.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
24
For this son of mine was dead and
is alive again; he was lost and is found.'
So they began to celebrate.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
25
“Meanwhile, the older son was in the
field. When he came near the house,
he heard music and dancing.
26
So he called one of the servants and
asked him what was going on.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
27
‘Your brother has come,’ he replied,
‘and your father has killed the fattened calf
because he has him back safe and sound.’
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
28
“The older brother became angry and
refused to go in. So his father went out and
pleaded with him.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
29
But he answered his father, ‘Look!
All these years I’ve been slaving for you
and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you
never gave me even a young goat so
I could celebrate with my friends.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
30
But when this son of yours who has
squandered your property with prostitutes
comes home, you kill the fattened calf
for him!’
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
31
“ ‘My son, ’ the father said, ‘you are always
with me, and everything I have is yours.
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
32
But we had to celebrate and be glad,
because this brother of yours was dead
and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”
Luke 15:11-32
New International Version
32
But we had to celebrate and be glad,
because this brother of yours was dead
and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

LESSON 2: THE CONDITION
OF SALVATION

II.FA I T H
1
Some time later God tested Abraham.
He said to him, “Abraham!”
“Here I am,” he replied.
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
2
Then God said, “Take your son, your only
son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the
region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a
burnt offering on one of the mountains I will
tell you about.”
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
3
Early the next morning Abraham got up
and saddled his donkey. He took with him
two of his servants and his son Isaac.
When he had cut enough wood for the burnt
offering, he set out for the place God had told
him about.
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
4
On the third day Abraham looked up and
saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to
his servants, “Stay here with the donkey
while I and the boy go over there. We will
worship and then we will come back to you.”
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
6
Abraham took the wood for the burnt
offering and placed it on his son Isaac,
and he himself carried the fire and the knife.
As the two of them went on together,
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
7
Isaac spoke up and said to his father
Abraham, “Father?”
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.
“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said,
“but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
9
When they reached the place God had told
him about, Abraham built an altar there and
arranged the wood on it. He bound his son
Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top
of the wood.
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
10
Then he reached out his hand and took the
knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the
LORD called out to him from heaven,
“Abraham! Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied.
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
12
And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the
lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that
you fear God, since you have not withheld
your son, your only son, from Me.”
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
13
Abraham looked up and there in a thicket
he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went
over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a
burnt offering instead of his son.
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version
14
So Abraham called that place The LORD
Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the
mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”
Genesis 22:1-14
New International Version

1. Faith is the ATTITUDE whereby man
abandons all reliance on his own efforts
to obtain salvation.
- It is the attitude of
COMPLETE trust in Christ for all that
salvation means.
A . D E F I N I T I O N O F FA I T H
2. Faith is TRUSTING and OBEYING
God.
B . M I S C O N C E P T I O N O F FA I T H
1. Faith is TRUSTING and OBEYING
God.
- Faith is not a blind LEAP into
the dark. It is not “Bahala Na” system
or “Let whatever happens” attitude. It
is trusting in God who will accomplish
His will and promises.
B . M I S C O N C E P T I O N O F FA I T H
2. Faith is not a SUPPOSITION “siguro!”,
“Sana!”. It is believing in God’s promises
and its certainty.
Genesis 22:5

the donkey while I and the boy go over

3. Faith is not an OPINION or hypothesis.
C . N E C E S S I T Y O F FA I T H
1. Faith LEADS us to God. Trusting in
Him will lead to salvation and a personal
relationship with Him. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
C . N E C E S S I T Y O F FA I T H
2. Faith is needed to PLEASE God.
(Hebrews 11:6)
C . N E C E S S I T Y O F FA I T H
3. Faith is needed in OBEYING God. We
cannot obey unless we believe
beforehand.
D . S O U R C E S O F FA I T H
1. JESUS CHRIST. We believe because of
what He has done for us. His love
makes Him trustworthy (Hebrews 12:2).
D . S O U R C E S O F FA I T H
2. THE WORD. Faith comes from hearing
the message and the message is heard
through the Word. It contains all His
promises and His will for us (Romans
10:17).
CONCLUSION
Faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see
(Hebrews 11:1). It is by grace through faith
that we have been saved and not by our
works.
CONCLUSION
Our faith is needed to please God
because it is trusting and believing in the
certainty of God’s works and promises. Our
faith in God is also from God.
