History
Floating markets in the Mekong Delta were
born naturally from people's travel and
trading activities on the river around the
beginning of the twentieth century.
Cai Rang Floating Market is located at the
junction of 3 rivers. Gradually, boats came
here to anchor more and more and became
an extremely bustling floating market.
"Cai Rang"
The name Cai Rang comes from the
story of the time of the time when
local people established the hamlets.
Cai Rang is also derived from the
Khmer word "karan", which means “ca
rang” (terracotta pots). The Khmer
people in Xa Ton (Tri Ton – An Giang)
make a lot of karan to sell everywhere
Features
The "4 hanging" method appeared to help sellers
and buyers easily identify what nearby canoes are
trading.
• Hang what you sell
• Hanging without selling
• Not hung but sold
• Hang one but sell another
Not only hanging crooked trees
attached to the things they sell, ships,
boats, and canoes also have crooked
trees all hanging coconut leaves.
Features
Immersed in the atmosphere of the market, you
can learn about the river life of the people. The
beauty and interesting thing here is that if you turn
your eyes to any place, you will encounter the
image of mobile restaurants.
In 2016, Cai Rang floating market was
recognized as a national intangible
cultural heritage.
The YourAmazingPlaces page also
ranks the market in the list of the 5
most beautiful floating markets in
Asia.
Cultural Cai Rang floating market is a vivid
testament to this lifestyle. Today, it is
significance & not only a place to preserve the
tourism
quintessence of regional culture but
has become an attractive destination
in tourism.
