 The state of Bihar is situated north of the Tropic of Cancer.

Bihar is a state in eastern India located in the central plains of the Ganges. The present form of Bihar came
after Jharkhand's separation on November 15, 2000. The rectangular shape of present-day Bihar has an area of 94,163 square kilometers (36,357 Sq mi). This is 2.86%
of the total area of India.  Bihar is the 12th largest state of India (after the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir) in terms of area. It ranks 13th overall among states
and union territories (after including the Union Territory of J&K and Ladakh).  According to the 2011 census, the population of Bihar is 104,099,452. In terms of people, it
is the third-largest state in the country. The geographical expansion of Bihar lies between 24° 20' 10 to 27° 31' 15" north latitude and 83° 19' 50 to 88° 17' 40 east
longitude. The length of Bihar from north to south is 345 km and the width from east to west is 483 km. HACKING IAS PCS HACKING IAS PCS The borderline of Bihar 
West Bengal is located east of Bihar, and the 3 districts of Bihar touching are Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar.  Uttar Pradesh is located west of Bihar, which touches the

international border. determines. West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj are among the 7 districts of Bihar that touch
Nepal.  Jharkhand is located in the south of Bihar, which touches 7 districts of Bihar namely Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Gaya, Aurangabad, Katihar and Rohtas. 
Rohtas district of Bihar shares border with both Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.  Katihar district of Bihar shares borders with both West Bengal and Jharkhand. 
Kishanganj district of Bihar shares borders with both West Bengal and Nepal.  West Champaran district of Bihar shares borders with both Uttar Pradesh and Nepal.  13
districts of Bihar neither determine the international border nor touch any state.  Among the 38 districts of Bihar, West Champaran is the largest district in terms of area

Bihar's smallest district by area in ascending order- Sheohar, Arwal, Shekhpura.  Gaya districts are located in the southernmost part of the state and West Champaran
district is located in the northernmost part. Starting from Kaimur district in the west, it extends till Kishanganj in the east.  There are total 9 divisions in Bihar, namely
Bhagalpur, Munger, Tirhut, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Patna, Kosi (Saharsa), Magadha (Gaya) and Purnia. consisting of several districts: Bihar's nine administrative
divisions function as primary subdivisions, each  Patna: Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Patna, Rohtas, Nalanda  Saran: Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj  Tirhut: East Champaran,
Muzaffarpur, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Vaishali, West Champaran  Purnia: Araria, Katihar, Kishanganj, Purnia  Bhagalpur: Banka, Bhagalpur  Darbhanga: Darbhanga,
Madhubani, Samastipur  Kosi: Madhepura, Saharsa, Supaul  Magadh: Arwal, Aurangabad, Gaya, Jehanabad, Nawada  Munger: Begusarai, Jamui, Khagaria, Munger,
Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura NOTE-  BHAGALPUR IS THE SMALLEST DIVISION OF BIHAR IN TERMS OF AREA.
