Introduction to Statistics
Statistics is the science concerned with developing and studying
methods for collecting, analyzing, interpreting and presenting
empirical data.
Scope of Statistics
Statistics is used in many sectors such as psychology, geology,
sociology, weather forecasting, probability and much more. The
goal of statistics is to gain understanding from the data, it
focuses on applications, and hence, it is distinctively considered
as a mathematical science.
A cricketer's career graph is analyzed through stats like
batting/bowling averages, centuries, wickets, strike rates, and
milestones. Key factors include consistency, peak performance
years, injuries, and leadership impact.
How does statisctics help in analysis
of career graph of a cricketer
Statistics play a crucial role in analyzing a cricketer's career graph
by providing quantifiable data points like batting average, strike rate,
bowling economy, and other relevant metrics, allowing for a detailed
assessment of their performance over time, identifying trends, strengths,
weaknesses, and potential areas for improvement, which helps coaches,
selectors, and analysts make informed decisions about the player's
selection and strategy.
• Comparing to peers : By comparing a cricketer's statistics to other
players in their position or league, one can assess their relative
performance and identify areas where they might need to improve.
• Identifying strengths and weaknesses : Detailed analysis of
statistics can highlight a cricketer's strengths, such as scoring heavily
against specific bowlers or performing well under pressure, and
weaknesses, like struggling against particular types of deliveries.
• Predicting future performance : By studying past performance trends
and considering current form, statistical analysis can be used to predict a
cricketer's potential performance in upcoming matches or tournaments.
