Solar PV Industry’s Outlook

in Indonesia
CO2 Emmissions
Carbon dioxide emissions due to human
activities are increasing. Based on data, it was
revealed that CO2 emission levels were up to
182 times higher since the industrial revolution.
These carbon emissions come from many
things, including: burning fossil fuels (oil, coal
and gas), deforestation, use of motorized
vehicles, and also excessive use of electricity.
Burning fossil fuels is thought to contribute as
much as 87% to the increase in the quantity of
CO2 in the air. The electrical energy that we
currently use is powered by fossil fuels. This
excess amount will have a significant impact on
climate change.
China, the United States, India, Russia, Japan, Iran and Indonesia are
the countries that produce the largest carbon emissions in the world.
Solar PV Industry Outlook
in Indonesia
Because of its non-renewable nature, fossil fuel energy
reserves and coal have a time limit. The Minister of Energy
and Mineral Resources, in a forum in 2021, stated that
Indonesia's oil reserves are available for 9.5 years and gas
reserves for 19.9 years.
This is under the condition that there are no further
discoveries of new oil and gas reserve points. With all
these limitations, it means that it is time to look for
alternative energy sources.
New renewable energy allows for continuous use, because
it can always be renewed. This energy source can also be
easily found. One of them is sunlight (solar energy).
Indonesia, which is located on the equator, has the
advantage of getting full sunlight all year round and the
duration of day and night is the same throughout the year.
This is one of several reasons why Indonesia is quite a

installation capacity of up to 5GW by 2030.
Solar PV Industry Outlook
in Indonesia
As previously mentioned, Indonesia is located on the equator,
which means it gets the maximum supply of sunlight, so Solar
Photo Voltaic technology is the most relevant solution for the
future of energy. Apart from being an effort to make Net Zero
Emissions a success, this energy transition step needs to take
concrete steps immediately.

The floating Solar Power Plant project on Lake Cirata is a

national strategic project (PSN). This power plant has a
capacity of 192 MW. This is a form of collaboration
between the Indonesian government and the United
Arab Emirates government. This Solar Power Plant is the
largest in the Southeast Asia region. This PLTS was built
on an area of 200 hectares, and is capable of supplying
electricity to around 50,000 homes.
