Introduction
LTE3605 DL 4x4 MIMO with Carrier Aggregation – 12 layers

• In addition to increased maximum achievable DL peak user

throughput, LTE3605 enhances also throughput efficiency check
mechanism introduced in FL17A feature LTE2582 (LTERLCR-17635)
• Throughput efficiency check is based on twoLayerMimoAvSpectralEff
and fourLayerMimoAvSpectralEff parameter values and channel
bandwidths of particular Component Carriers
- Within LTE2582 feature, throughput efficiency check was performed for
step-wise SCell addition/configuration only (numTxWithHighNonGBR > 0)
- Starting from LTE3605, throughput efficiency check will be performed also
for one-step SCell addition/configuration (numTxWithHighNonGBR = 0)

Deployment Aspects
LTE3605 DL 4x4 MIMO with Carrier Aggregation – 12 layers

Feature LTE3605 DL 4x4 MIMO with Carrier Aggregation – 12 layers is active only
when the value of maxNumMimoLayerFdd(CAPDR) parameter is equal to 12
- For default parameter value of 10, legacy solution from LTE2582 with up to 10 spatial
MIMO layers per CA UE is used

Highest gains coming from support of up to 12 spatial MIMO layers (especially

increased peak DL user throughput) can be observed only under specific
conditions:
- There must be present UEs supporting both 4x4 MIMO and DL CA functionalities
simultaneously (especially Cat 14, Cat 16 and beyond UEs to reach over 1 Gbps
throughputs)
- AirScale System Module have to be used
• Due to transmission module interface limitations, in case of FSMr3 System Modules, it is
recommended to execute tests for 64QAM modulation in DL where expected maximum UDP t-put
is limited to 720Mbps. For 256QAM modulation expected max. UDP T-put is 890Mbps.

twoLayerMimoAvSpectralEff (LNCEL_FDD)

The two layer MIMO average spectral efficiency is used by the throughput check during
step-wise SCell addition (numTxWithHighNonGBR>0) as follows.
If the throughput metric after the SCell addition is greater than the throughput metric
before the SCell addition then this SCell addition is admitted. Otherwise this SCell addition
is rejected. The throughput metric is the sum of xLayerMimoAvSpectralEff*bandwidth of the
UE’s serving cells. Where xLayerMimoAvSpectralEff is equal to twoLayerMimoAvSpectralEff
if the UE is configured with two layer MIMO on a given serving cell respectively
xLayerMimoAvSpectralEff is equal to fourLayerMimoAvSpectralEff if the UE is configured
with four layer MIMO on a given serving cell.
A reasonable value of the parameter can be derived from the existing KPI LTE_5747a "DL
Spectral efficiency" with dlMimoMode set to "Closed Loop Mimo" or "Closed Loop MIMO
(4x2)".
The throughput check is not used by setting the parameter value to "0.5" i.e. any SCell
addition will be always admitted by the check if twoLayerMimoAvSpectralEff =
fourLayerMimoAvSpectralEff in all involved cells.
