• Rizal authored a collection of French activities that may be used as a
workbook or textbook for French language learners.
• He published the Annotated edition of Antonio Morga's Sucesos de las Islas
Filipinas in 1890 .
• He published "Pot Telefong" under the penname Dimas Alang to defend his
Noli Me Tangere from the attack of Fr. Salvador Font.

ASSOCIATION IN PARIS
1. Kidlat Club “social society of temporary nature” (March 19, 1889)
- Rizal established it solely to unite young Filipinos in the French capital,
allowing them to enjoy their stay during the Universal Exposition.
2. Indios Bravos (Rizal replaced the Kidlat Club)
- Its members pledged to excel in both intellectual and physical skills
to earn the admiration of foreigners, particularly the Spaniards. They
enthusiastically practiced swordsmanship and pistol shooting, while Rizal also
taught them judo.

3. RDLM (Redencion de los Malayos)
– A secret society existence of this society was mentioned in Rizal’s letter

BRUSSELS
• Rizal left Paris and went to Brussels in 1890. He proceeded writing
his second novel entitled El Filibusterismo.
• He wrote articles for the La Solaridad to support and defend his
people and emphasize the Spanish rule’s cruelty to his country.
• As a physician, he spent part of his time in medical clinics.
• He did target practice and fencing at the armory, gymnastics at the
gymnasium as his leisure activities.

• Rizal learned from Juan Luna and Valentine
Ventura that the Filipinos in Spain were
damaging the good reputation of their country
by gambling too much.
• They called Rizal “Papa” instead of Pepe when
the gambling Filipinos learned of Rizal’s

France, where he stayed with his friends, the Boustead family.

* Rizal searched for a printing shop that could give him the lowest quotation for the

who was willing to print his book on installment basis.
* He pawned his jewels in order to pay the down payment and early partial payments
during the printing of the novel.
* Rizal became desperate because his funds were running low.
* He received some money from Basa and P200 from Rodriguez Arias for the copies of
Morga's Sucesos sold in Manila but these funds were also used up.
July 1891-Rizal wrote a letter to Basa saying that if no money comes he have to stop the
El Fili's publication.
* August 6-The printing had to be suspended, as Rizal feared, because he could no longer
give the necessary funds to the printer.
