WSN-Based Smart Industrial Safety &
Hazard Detection System
Objective:
• To develop a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) system for enhancing industrial safety through real-time
detection of hazards.
• It monitors gas leakage, fire, high temperature, and unauthorized access to enable timely alerts and
responses.
Key Features:
• A low-cost, scalable WSN system enabling real-time monitoring of gas, flame, temperature, and motion
with wireless communication.
• Features include GSM alerts, IoT dashboard, on-site alarms, and LCD display for live industrial safety
management.
Why this matters:
• Industrial accidents from gas leaks or fire can cause severe losses, and manual systems are often slow
and unreliable.
• A smart, real-time, wireless solution using WSN and IoT offers a low-cost and scalable approach to
enhance safety.

System Architecture
Components Used:
• Wireless Sensor Nodes – Example: DHT11 (Temperature & Humidity Sensor), MQ-
7 (Carbon Monoxide Sensor).
• Microcontroller/Processor – Example: ESP32, Arduino Uno.
• Wireless Communication Modules – Example: Zigbee (Xbee), LoRa (RFM95).
• Centralized Gateway/Coordinator – Example: Raspberry Pi, Arduino with
Ethernet Shield.
• Cloud Platform (IoT) – Example: ThingSpeak, AWS IoT.
• Alarm & Warning System – Example: Buzzer, LED Lights, SMS Alerts via Twilio.
• Human-Machine Interface (HMI) – Example: Web Dashboard.
• Power Supply & Battery Management – Example: Lithium-ion Batteries, Solar
Panel.

System Architecture
Working
• Sensors detect hazardous elements like gas, smoke, fire, or abnormal
temperature.
• Microcontroller processes sensor data to check if safety limits are exceeded.
• Wireless module sends data to a central system using ZigBee, Wi-Fi, or LoRa.
• Central monitoring system receives data and displays real-time values.
• System checks for danger levels and identifies any abnormal conditions.
• Alert system triggers notifications like buzzer, LED, SMS, or app alerts.
• Preventive actions are taken like activating fans or shutting off machines.
• Data is accessible remotely via mobile apps or web dashboards.
