Abstract
• The project focuses on using Tableau to visualize global COVID-19 data
from trusted sources like OWID & JHU. Interactive dashboards were
designed to analyze trends in cases, deaths, testing, and vaccination.
Findings show clear links between vaccination and reduced death rates.
Objectives
• • Collect and preprocess global COVID-19 data
• • Visualize cases, deaths, and vaccination progress
• • Design interactive Tableau dashboards
• • Identify insights for policymaking
• • Demonstrate Tableau’s effectiveness in public health data storytelling
Methodology
• • Data Source: Our World in Data, Johns Hopkins
• • Tools: Tableau, Excel
• • Data Cleaning: removed nulls, standardized dates, calculated fields
• • Visualization: line charts, heat maps, bar charts, treemaps, dashboards
• • Ethics: Open-source data, proper citations
Data Analysis & Interpretation
• • Daily & cumulative case trends: identified major waves (Delta, Omicron)
• • Mortality & CFR: higher in countries with weaker health systems
• • Heat maps: identified global hotspots & vaccination leaders
• • Vaccination rollout: highlighted global inequalities
• • Correlation dashboards: vaccination linked to reduced death rates
Results & Discussion
• • Tableau dashboards highlighted peaks & disparities
• • High vaccination rates linked to lower death rates
• • Clear public health inequalities in vaccine access
• • Tableau effective for real-time, user-friendly analysis
• • Useful framework for future health crises
Implications & Recommendations
• • Governments: monitor vaccination & infection clusters with dashboards
• • Education: teach epidemiological data literacy
• • NGOs: increase transparency via dashboards
• • Future: integrate predictive models, real-time APIs, hospital data
Conclusion
• Tableau is a powerful tool for transforming complex pandemic data into
clear, interactive dashboards. This project demonstrates the role of data
storytelling in managing health crises and provides a scalable framework
for data-driven decision-making.
