OPTICAL SENSOR
An input device using light beams to scan and
digitally convert the image, code ,text, or graphic
images as 2D file and sends them to computer.
Used for many purpose like,
Customized response forms
Creating automated data fields
Recording finger prints.
Optical scanning system
Optical scanning device combines specialized computer
hardware and software.
Hardware captures the image and software converts into
computer readable data.
There are four main type of optical scanning technologies.
Optical mark reading (OMR).
Optical character recognition (OCR).
Intelligent character recognition (ICR).
Imaging technology.
Optical mark reading?
scanner reading particular kinds of marks in a defined
set of locations on a page.
The computer software used by the OMR scanner is
programmed to recognize the meaning of the various
marks, and to convert scanned images into computer-
readable data using the location of those marks.
Uses image scanner to process survey, tests,
attendance sheets and check list on laser printer.
(OMR) Scanning system
Optical character recognition (OCR)
scanning system
OCR scanning systems take scanned images and use
computer software to recognize the shapes of
characters such as numbers and letters, and store
them as computer-readable data.
OCR works by 'training' the scanning software to
recognize particular shapes as letters and numbers.
OCR systems have to be trained to recognize that a
particular letter or number can take several different
forms. OCR systems can also be trained to recognize
hand writing. However, given the infinite variety in
hand writing styles, this is a much more difficult task
Intelligent character recognition(ICR)
scanning system
ICR takes advancement in OCR systems using
computer software to apply intelligent logic tests to
scanned characters to more reliably convert them into
computer-readable data
ICR systems apply rules of spelling, grammar and
context to scanned text in order to make 'intelligent'
assessments as to the correct interpretation of the
data.
ICR systems are being examined for their suitability to
capture hand written numbers from ballots used for
more complex electoral systems.
Imaging technology
Scanners can also capture image to be stored as
computer readable images.
Photographs, drawings and images of text can be
stored and reused in computer readable form.
Photographs of polling stations can included on
websites and instruction manuals. Examples of
completed forms can be scanned as images and
printed in training manuals.
Imaging technology
Imaging technology can be used for identity
verification purpose.
Images of fingerprints or facial features can be stored
on smart card.
Software identity system can compare the image on
smart card with one who bring it to compare weather
it is same person.
