Need of Secondary Devices

The primary memory, due to its small capacity, cannot store
large amount of data. Moreover RAM is a volatile memory and
cannot store the data permanently.

Thus secondary storage devices are used to store information
until its gets deleted or overwritten by the user.
The commonly
01 used secondary
storage devices :-

Hard Disk And ●
CD ROM
02 external Hard disk 03

Flash Drive 04

Blue-Ray disk
HARD DISK AND EXTERNAL HARD DISK

The most common storage device for storing a large amount of
data. It’s called the HD or HDD (Hard disk drive) or Winchester
Disk.

Was first introduced by by an IBM company led by Rey Johnson

It’s hard and flexible due to a coating of magnetic material.

It has a large storage capacity. It can store up to 8TB of data.

The disk rotates at a very high speed, varying from 5400 to
15,000 rpm (rotations per minute)
CD-ROM

A CD-ROM stands Compact Disc-Read only Memory.

It is a type of optical disk capable of storing a large amount of data,
information, software, etc.

The data from a CD can be accessed using a CD drive.

high-quality video, audio and other kinds of digital
informtaion

It can store 6 times more data than a CD and is 15
times faster.
