CHAPTER 6
VRS800G ‐ VOICE RECORDER SYSTEM
(VRS)
• CONFIGURATION OF A VRS800G SYSTEM IS DONE IN THE WEB
APPLICATION.
• THE MODULES ARE ORGANIZED INTO THREE CATEGORIES.
• SYSTEM MODULES PERFORM SERVICES THAT ARE ALWAYS PART
OF A STANDARD INSTALLATION ON A SERVER, E.G.
CONFIGURATION, MONITORING SERVICES ETC.
• TRANSFORMER MODULES ARE USUALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR
ACQUIRING DATA INPUT FROM A SOURCE AND TRANSFORMING
THAT DATA VIA VARIOUS FILTERS AND WRITE THE RESULTING
OUTPUT TO DISK FOR LATER RETRIEVAL AND REPLAY, E.G.
ACQUISITION OF DATA FROM AN AUDIO DEVICE OR FROM A
SCREEN GRABBER.
• TILITY MODULES ARE MODULES THAT USUALLY HAVE A
SPECIALIZED TASK, FOR EXAMPLE TIME KEEPING SERVICES THAT
SYSTEM SETTING SITTI provides to customers recorders with already active
licenses.
The software is installed as Windows service with name VRS800G. The
license is linked to the physical interface of the Replay LAN, which is selected
during the installation process among the LAN interfaces available on the
machine.
In the end, only last steps must be done directly by the administrator, in
particular:
➢ ROLES AND USERS SETTING;
➢ STORAGE MODULE CONFIGURATION;
➢ REPLAY MODULE ON AUXILIARY PC (OPTIONAL)
During the installation a default Administrator User is created with credentials:
Username: admin Password: password .
The main page is open as in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Main page of VRS recorder
Three different sections can be observed:
➢ ACTIVITY: here is possible to listen/watch the recorded
files and export them.
➢ INFORMATION: it contains information on the system,
such as log files, etc.
➢ ADMINISTRATION: Here it is possible to configure the
system.
USERS AND ROLES
The ADMIN user is created during the installation. It has the full
administrator privileges and it is able to create other users and
to assign them a role.
Recorder VRS800G separates the USER concept from the ROLE
one. The former is the person (ex. SSO) which could be part of a
public domain or company domain, the latter is simply a position
(controller, technician, etc,).
For these reasons, there’s no any predefined user (except for
ADMIN), but there are 4 predefined roles (compliance, Replay,
System Administrator, Technical Supervisor), each one with its
own permissions and privileges.
For example, WSO as Replay is able to listen the audios and
watch videos, but has no access to administration panel. On the
contrary, SSO as Technical Supervisor cannot listen Audios but
has access to the administration panel.
CREATE A NEW ROLE
In any time is
possible to add a
new Role or
customize an
existing one.
To do that:
➢ Click
Administration →
Roles, then right
click on the list and
select ADD (Figure
2);
Name it and select its privileges with the flags (Figure 3) and click SAVE
button
CREATE A NEW USER: In similar manner it is possible to add a new User.
To do that: Click Administration → Users, and then right click on user list
(Figure 4)
Edit a Username and Password for the new user (Figure 5) and
click ADD:
STORAGE MODULE
CONFIGURATION
To record files, it is
necessary to define one or
more memory space in the
disk. This operation is
performed by STORAGE
MODULE. Here it is
possible to activate also
the retention time.
To do that: Click on
Administration → Utility
Modules.
Right Click on it and select
ADD MODULE; ✓ Select
STORAGE and choose a
unique name. ✓ Set the
options as in Figure 8,
except for Path line. It will
be automatically filled after
saving. ✓ The object
appears under the folder
Utility Modules; ✓ For
activation, right click on it
MODULES SETTING After the activation of the STORAGE Module, it is possible
to configure the objects dedicated to the recording:
TRANSFORMER. The transformer structure is identical for each signal input,
in particular three different section can be always identified:
INPUT SOURCE: the software offers several possible inputs such as RTP,
ED137, TCP and so on. It is always required the coordinates for the
connection (IP + Port);
OPERATIONS ON INPUT: it is possible to filter the input before storage or apply
a function (ex. peak search, RTP sequence control, etc.);
STORAGE: a storage destination must be indicated; Also, the setting up of a
transformer has always the same outline: ✓ Click “Administration” panel; ✓
Right Click on the recorder HW and select ADD MODULE; ✓ Select
TRANSFORMER and a unique name for it;
RTP UNICAST
In case of UNICAST recording
the source sends traffic
towards unique destination,
which is identified by IP
address and Port.
Create a TRANSFORMER
with a unique name;
Open setting and expand
“advanced configuration”
The configuration as given in
the Figure
RTP MULTICAST
In case of MULTICAST recording the source sends traffic
with particular IP class, such that many destinations can
listen.
It is possible to configure one single module for many
RTP multicast sources. ✓ Create a TRANSFORMER with
unique name; ✓ Open settings and expand “Advanced
configuration”. ✓ For configuration follow Figure 15 A and
B.
NOTE: in case of many Multicast addresses it is necessary
to insert them manually. It is recommended to split them
in different modules (10 or 20 for each one) in order to
reduce human erro
CHANNEL MAPPING AND RENAMING:
If Automatic Channel Mapping option is enabled,
the recorder provides automatically to associate all
the received input to separate channels and make
them visible on Activity Panel with a unique name.
Often this name is not what the final customers
expects and, then, it is possible to change it
manually.
To do that: Open Administration → Mapping and
select from the menu the desired channel group. In
this case Multicast RTP; The user now is free to
modify the column Name with its own name list.
Press SAVE and exit
ED137 RECORDING
The ED137 recording
requires to set both
Module and Storage,
in particular: ✓
Create TRANSFORMER
with a unique name;
✓ Open configuration
Panel and follow
Figure
CHANNEL MAPPING KEY: Channel Mapping Keys is set different depending on the
context. In general, two main possibilities:
REMOTE RADIO RECORDING: remote radios or, in general, all external devices are
mapped with IP
LOCAL POSITION RECORDING: all local position are mapped with ClientID.
VIDEO RECORDING
The recorder is able to
receive RTSP streams
from both Video
grabbers and any
other IP source (ex.
IPcams).
The procedure is
exactly the same
✓ Create a
TRANSFORMER with a
unique name;
✓ Select RTSP as
source;
✓ Insert the URLs of
the RTSP streams;
AUDIO REPLAY
The panel activity on main menu allows the replay of audios and videos.
AUDIO EXPORT
It is possible to export audio in two ways: ➢ GENERAL PURPOSE: the software
exports a .wav file for each track.
➢ LEGAL PURPOSE: the software exports an encrypted file and in case of ED137
it contains also metadata.
GENERAL PURPOSE EXPORT: To export a file, it is enough to select with mouse
the desired portion of audio and with right click select EX-PORT.
LEGAL EXPORT:
Legal export requires little bit more operations:
➢ SELECT THE AUDIO: exactly the same as general purpose export;
➢ ADD TO QUARANTINE: The file is saved in Quarantine menu on the bottom
of the page. In this way it cannot be modified or moved.
IMPOUND: the file is encrypted with password (selected by the user) and
saved outside;
In a second moment, it is possible to import again the file (IMPORT IMPOUND)
and play it.
VIDEO REPLAY
The video is
replayed in
similar way than
audio. A single
track is replayed
simply by
clicking on it and
a preview is
shown in the
bottom of the
page.
To enlarge it, right click on the small preview and select NEW WINDOW. A
bigger and adjustable new window is open
Then is possible to enlarge it as full screen by expanding the menu on the
top-right of the window and click on number 1
