Alastair has a strong background in mining geostatistics which started with an MSc in Mining Geology at Camborne School of Mines in the UK during 2002. The research project involved applying Multivariate Conditional Simulation to evaluate resource risk in a structurally complex Iron Ore deposit. The success of this project led to Rio Tinto to funding for a PhD at Camborne. The research objective was to develop new direct methods for evaluating risk in multivariate deposits which avoid full conditional simulation.
