Paul wrote this letter to the church in Thessalonica to thank them for their faith, hope, and love despite facing persecution. He praises their work and labor motivated by faith and love for God and others. The Thessalonians had become examples to all believers in Macedonia and Achaia by imitating Paul and continuing in the faith despite hardships. As a result of their faithful example, the word of the Lord had spread from Thessalonica to everywhere. Paul was grateful for their conversion from paganism to serving the true God and for their hope in Christ's second coming.
