This document outlines a communicative language learning project between Beginning Russian students at Drake University and students at Omsk Law University in Russia. The project aims to develop intercultural communicative competence through online exchanges. Students will explore cultural themes, complete questionnaires, engage in email and chat exchanges, give presentations, and report on their experiences. The goal is for language learners to co-create meaning and use compensatory strategies when communication breaks down due to cultural differences or language barriers. The project is facilitated by instructors Pete Smith in the U.S. and Konstantin Shestakov in Russia.
