Rural communities in Sudan often lack access to adequate healthcare. There are several factors that make healthcare delivery difficult in rural areas, including lack of trained staff and facilities, as well as poverty and food insecurity in some regions. Primary health care (PHC) aims to provide essential care through health education, immunizations, and treatment of common illnesses. However, Sudan's PHC system faces challenges of expanding access to remote areas with limited resources. Promoting high quality universal PHC will require health system reforms including shifting focus to PHC, developing standards, and increasing financing.
