Requirements for Participation: 
The Arnold School’s Office of Practice and Community 
Engagement (PACE) and the Institute of Cultural Affairs 
(ICA) are offering a FREE half-day Action Planning 
Opportunity for six groups or nonprofit organizations. 
The Action Planning Method is a Technology of 
Participation (ToP)® tool and a powerful implementation planning process. This approach 
enables you to help your group rapidly pull together an effective plan, organize needed 
resources, and mobilize individuals’ energy into action. 
How can you turn Action Planning Sessions into events that build enthusiasm, 
produce creative results, accountability, and momentum?

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA 
YOUR GROUP WILL: 
Action Planning is not Strategic Planning. Action Planning is tailored for events 
or projects that require a time frame from three to nine months. 
These sessions will serve as advanced training for experienced facilitators who are participants in a 
Mastery program with the Technology of Participation (ToP)® approach. Two facilitators and one senior-level 
instructor will lead each session.

timeline 
• Maximize your group’s commitment and 
involvement 
• Prevents conflicts and reduces time spent 
on conflict resolution.

productivity 
Date: Friday, November 7, 2014 
Minimum # of participants per group: 10 
Time: 3-4 Hours 
Prework: One-hour design preparation/planning for 
group participants with 2-3 project leaders from within 
the group’s organization or interested sponsors to discuss 
the subject of the Action Planning Process and provide a 
context for the facilitators by 5:00pm (EST) on November 
5, 2014.
