Anticipatory Analytics is the new ultimate technology
For Cable, Wireless and OTT operators
By Bob Hallahan - Vice President of Technology; Xavient Information Systems
Don’t just attempt to predict what might happen with your business, anticipate
what will happen and act on it before it occurs to prevent and avoid costs.
Anticipatory Analytics – Moving Predictive analytics beyond the horizon to
achieve truly optimal voice, data, Video and Digital OTT service delivery and
support. Analytics are only useful if the resulting information is accurate, timely,
and actionable. In the Digital Media Cable, Telecom and OTT sectors, the most
valuable operational insight will enable business decision makers to accurately
anticipate not only when and where a network problem will occur, but which
customers will be affected, how those customers will respond, and what
preventative actions they can take now, which affect customer experience,
operational costs, and net profit.
Traditionally most Cable and Telecom operators have monitored their networks
looking for problems after they have occurred, then react to resulting service
delivery problems only when customers call in to report a problem with their
service (Internet, Video, Voice, and OTT). In an attempt to shift from a reactive
service assurance model to a more proactive model, Operators have been
deploying analytics solutions to mine historical network and service delivery data
to predict when and where a problem might occur. The resulting analytics are
then used to escalate and prioritize upgrades, improvements, maintenance, and
tuning of service delivery networks from the network core (headend) to the
customer premise and all connected service consuming IP devices.
Analytics technology has been around for years enabling business’s to gain
strategic insight into the performance of their business operations, as well as the
behavior and trends of their existing and target customer base.
In recent years with the exponential growth mobility e-commerce and ubiquity
of IP devices and big data, it has become possible to apply the science of
statistical probability to deliver predictive analytics to business decision makers
giving them precise insights into market, competitive and customer behavior.
Predictive analytics provides optimal value when historical past results are
delivered with sufficient lead time to take proactive action to either prevent a
problem, or to seize on a time sensitive opportunity. Business can gain a
considerable advantage further in front or ahead of a problem or opportunity
you can get, which leads to the evolution and next generation of analytics.
Anticipatory Analytics (AA), is taking predictive analytics to an exponentially
new level of advanced early insight into your business operations and customer
experience. AA is shifting the view from the past to the future, presenting a
model of what is likely to happen based on what happened in the past and what
is happening now in real-time with your operations (network), services, and
customers.
Anticipatory Analytics are already being applied to advance safety of
Automobiles, providing drivers early warnings of a potential accident ahead, or
in aviation and healthcare.
Almost all large companies are already using predictive analytics in some form,
not all have tapped into the power of anticipatory analytics, which can identify
changes in companies before they happen.
The key to success in this brave new world of Anticipatory Analytics is precise
understanding of all aspects of the delivery of service to your customers and the
life blood of data that enables and support these services. This new capability
requires knowing what data to monitor in real-time to feed complex algorithms
which can pump out anticipation indictors of the likelihood that a problem will
occur with the delivery network, and the probability that specific customers will
respond in a certain way resulting in an avoidable set of costs such as expensive
customer service calls, truck rolls, and potential customer churn.
Xavient Information Systems has recently developed and deployed the first and
most highly successful Anticipatory Analytics solutions for the Digital Media
Broadcast sector, enabling operators to gain valuable new insight into their real
time service delivery network, services and customers at risk, and
recommendations for preventative action. Xavient’s Anticipatory Analytics
solution is enabling operators to lower Opex while gaining a real competitive
advantage, raising the bar on customer experience, service delivery, while
reducing churn and increasing profits through optimized service assurance.
