- 2. DROPOUT RATE AT VARIOUS LEVELS OF EDUCATION SYSTEM IN INDIA. ( SOURCE: THE HINDU)

Objective of the presentation: • To assess the availability of Schooling facility for elementary, secondary and higher stages within the educational system. • To assess availability of basic facilities in the recognized schools such as building, classrooms, drinking water, etc. • To know gross enrollment ratio in all stages. • To know the percent of teacher available per stage.
- 4. • To understand why the education system in country could not be grown as a excellence driven system and in most areas. • Suggest strategies as to how quality education could be taken to the education deprived larger portion of society. Rs 56, 386.63 crore has been allotted to school education in interim budget of 2019-20. Despite such huge allocation of funds towards school education from government of India, Quality of Education is not improving as fast as it should be. Reason and their solution.

AT ELEMENTARY LEVEL • ACCESS INDEX: Number of schools – 1.29 million Population in the age group- 193 Million • INFRASTRUCTURE INDEX: About 88 percent of the 1.29 million schools that impart elementary education in the country now have drinking water facility in school. About 67 percent schools in the country now have access to common toilets. More than 50 percent of total 1.29 million schools now have girl’s toilet • TEACHER’S INDEX: On an average, there are 4.5 teachers in a school. Pupil teacher ratio- 34:1 • OUTCOME INDEX: Gross enrollment ratio- 115.31 percent

AT SECONDARY LEVEL • ACCESS INDEX: Number of schools - 1.33 million Population in the age group – 120 million • INFRASTRUCTURE INDEX: About 80 percent of the 1.33 million schools that impart elementary education in the country now have drinking water facility in school. About 70 percent schools in the country now have access to common toilets. More than 54 percent of total 1.33 million schools now have girl’s toilet • TEACHER’S INDEX: Pupil teacher ratio- 31:1 • OUTCOME INDEX: Gross enrollment ratio- 73.74 percent

AT HIGHER LEVEL • ACCESS INDEX : Number of institutions- 700 degree granting institutions, 35500 affiliated colleges Population in the age group- 89,764,132 • INFRASTRUCTURE INDEX: more than 80 percentage of the institutions have proper infrastructure. • TEACHER’S INDEX: Pupil teacher ratio- 24:1 • OUTCOME INDEX: Gross enrollment ratio- 25.2 percent

SOLUTION MECHANISM • Improvement model for the teaching staff Quality to be formulated by the schools and colleges as per the course requirement. • Career counseling methodology for students according to their skills and interest. • Implementing parent-School Interaction model. • Improve Number of students attending schools on regular basis. • Integration of Vocational and skill development courses. • Government’s financial model to support above activities and ensure optimum assignment of resources to cultivate maximum output. • A monitoring body consisting of efficient and reliable individuals should be established to look into the investments made by the government so as to ensure that the fund maintained for the expansion and development education is properly utilized in the education sector only.
