Cellular respiration is the process by which glucose and oxygen are reacted to produce carbon dioxide, water, and ATP. It occurs inside the mitochondria of living cells, including plant, animal, bacteria, and other cells. Glucose and oxygen are broken down to transfer energy to ATP molecules, while matter is cycled as carbon dioxide and water are produced and used in photosynthesis to produce more glucose and oxygen.

- 8. (5) Connecting Photosynthesis & Respiration • The glucose and oxygen produced in photosynthesis is necessary to begin cellular respiration. • The carbon dioxide and water needed to begin photosynthesis, is made during cellular respiration.
