Kurt Lewin's change theory consists of three stages: unfreezing, moving to a new level or changing, and refreezing. The unfreezing stage involves letting go of old patterns that are counterproductive. The moving stage is adopting new, more productive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The refreezing stage establishes the changes as new habits so the change is sustained. Force field analysis also examines driving forces that push for change and restraining forces that resist change, with equilibrium being when these forces are balanced and no change occurs.
