This document outlines an exercise to help students explore chemical literature and databases. It asks students to select an antibiotic or drug to research using tools like Reaxys, SciFinder, eCPS and ChemDraw. For the selected drug, students are asked to summarize its importance and bioactivity, identify a reaction that could be reproduced in the lab, discuss if a referenced reaction demonstrates green chemistry principles, and summarize a cited patent using one or two sentences. The exercise aims to help students learn search strategies and skills for exploring chemical properties, reactions, and scholarly information on small molecule drugs.
