CLOUD COMPUTING

Larry Ellison (CEO Oracle)
Cloud computing is a construct that allows you to access
applications that actually resides at a location other than
your computer or other internet connected device.
Cloud History
• Cloud dates back as far as the 1950s.
• Next major event in cloud computing history occurred in
1969, when J.C.R. Licklider developed ARPANET.
• Professor Ramnath Chellappa was the first to use the term
"cloud computing" in 1997.
• In 1999, Salesforce became the first site to deliver
applications and software over the Internet.
Cloud
cloud is not a physical thing. The cloud is a network of
servers, and each server has a different function. Some
servers use computing power to run applications or "deliver
a service."
CLOUD LAYERS
Types of Cloud
Public Cloud – Can be accessed by any subscriber.
Private Cloud – Established for specific group or organization.
Community Cloud – Shared among two or more organizations
have similar cloud requirement.
Hybrid Cloud – Combination of two or more clouds (public,
private or community).
CLOUD COMPONENTS
In a simple topological sense, a cloud computing solution is
made up of several elements;-
1. clients.
2. the datacenter.
3.distributed servers.
Clients
Clients are the devices that the end users interact with to
manage their information on the cloud.
Clients are in three categories:-
Mobile
Thin
Thick
Thin clients are becoming an increasingly popular solution
because of their price and effect on the environment.
Benefit of Thin Client:-
Lower Hardware Cost
Lower IT Cost
Security
Data Security
Less Power Consumption
Ease of repair or replacement
Less noise
Datacenter
The collection of servers where the application to
which you subscribe is housed.
Distributed Servers
Often, servers are in geographically disparate
locations.
Full Virtualization:-
Full virtualization is a technique in which a complete
installation of one machine is run on another.
Paravirtualization
Allows multiple operating system to run on a single
hardware device at the same time by more efficiently using
system resources, like processor and memory.
Services
Is the concept of being able to use reusable, fine-grained
components across the vendor’s network.
Software as a service (SaaS)
Platform as a service (PaaS)
Infrastructure as a service(IaaS)
Advantages:-
Cost Efficient
Almost Unlimited Storage
Backup and Recovery
Automatic Software Integration
Easy Access to Information
Quick Deployment
Cloud services (Examples)
• Microsoft:-Microsoft Office 365(Microsoft Skydrive in the
case of Office), Web apps
• Google Drive: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Reader,
Google Voice, and so on.
• Apple iCloud
• Amazon Cloud Drive
CloudHardware
primary example of a device that is completely cloud-
centric is the Samsung Chromebook Series 3(an inexpensive
laptop)
Cloud-Service Providers
CtrlS.com, Netmagic Solutions, bsnlcloud, IBM, NEC, Netapp
humyo.com etc.
Cloud Computing- Conclusion-
Rather than experiencing a technological revolution ,cloud
is the way we consume IT resources.
The network is the foundation of cloud computing
