the features page however, some
magazines promote certain products
on their features page to sell
advertising space
The image of the editor is also used
at the end of the letter as it creates a
more personal connection with the
audience
Kent Life Magazine
The layout of this features page is positioned in a way it looks
like a letter structure. The editor’s letter is a long paragraph
filling the whole page centered in the middle of the page to show
importance, in addition because of the great deal of text, we
could assume that the target audience are older

The long shot image of the model is
used however her facial expressions
are clear as well as the background,
the car looks very old fashioned and
it looks as if there is a photo shoot
going on - the models facial
expressions make the reader want to
find out more
Multiple images used to convey
different stories or to inform the
reader what is going to follow in the
issue - mid shot of a man taking a
photo, direct mode of address

the model and reader uses and
grats
The white background allows the text
and image to stand out
The letter is signed by the editor at
the bottom which further creates a
more personal relationship with the
audience
‘Hollywood Moment’ catches the
readers attention
CODES AND CONVENTIONS EDITORIAL PAGE - TITLE
There are many ways in which
the title is made more appealing
and allows the audience to
connect on another level for
example, in Absolute Brighton
different font and colour is used
to emphasise the word ‘Letter’
Other magazines use catch
phrases such as ‘We are
Family’ to create a more
personal feeling with the
audience (direct mode of
address) and this makes the
reader want to read on uses
and grats theory.
The title is the biggest text on
the page and the majority of the
time in a san serif font.
The title is usually either a
welcoming phrase or something
to do with the editor eg. ‘Editor’s
Letter’
CODES AND CONVENTIONS EDITORIAL PAGE - IMAGES
When doing my research I noticed multiple images
were used to create a visual aspect and there was
no set pattern to the images. This gives a chance
to create relationships with the audience.
A common convention was a close up portrait
photo of the editor and this was usually positioned
at the end of the letter, this helps to make it more
personal and creates a direct mode of address.
Generally in all the magazines which I have
researched the editor is smiling which further
creates a personal relationship with the reader.
The lighting in the images is always high key
CODES AND CONVENTIONS EDITORIAL PAGE - EDITORS NOTE
The text is aligned in straight angles, creating an organized structure.
The text is often in a san serif font at a size around 10-11. All of the
editors letters are signed at the end.
Sometimes the paragraphs begin with a drop cap which stands out
and is eye catching.
