2. Creating a Course

How This Lesson Works
• You will be given step-by-step instruction.
• Afterward, you will see a slide with a video box.
• When play is pressed, this video will demonstrate
the process step-by-step in Sierra.
• If you have questions at the end, there is contact
information on the last slide.
Creating a Course
• Start by opening the Course Reserves module from
the FUNCTION dropdown list and selecting New from
the menu bar.
• You will be prompted to enter the following
information.
Creating a Course
• Location. Use the following: dls for Dayton Campus,
engl for Englewood LC, hubl for Huber Heights LC,
and warl for Courseview Campus.
Creating a Course
• Professor/Teaching Asst.: Key in the name of the
Department or Instructor placing the materials on
reserve. When keying in an instructor name put the
last name first, a comma, and then the first name.
Creating a Course
• Course: Key in the course number (ABC 1234) along
with its course name as listed in the catalog. Follow
it with a dash and the name of the campus (ex. MAT
1470 Intermediate Algebra – Dayton Campus)
Creating a Course
• Course Note: Dayton Campus Only: Key in “All
Dayton Campus Reserve materials are subject to late
fines.” Other campuses can use this note to suit
their needs. This note displays in the catalog.
• Next, place your cursor in the Begin Date field and
key in the letter “t”. This will place the current date
in that field.
Creating a Course
• Review the information you have keyed in and make
any necessary changes or corrections.
• Select Save.
• You have created a course. You can add materials at
any time.

Adding Library Materials to a Course and Adding
Department- or Instructor-Owned Materials to a
Course.
