ASSURE
DAY 3
THE BREAKING POINT
ANALYZE THE
LEARNERS
I am teaching a class room in rural West Virginia.
My class consists of 13 males and 10 females. The
breakdown of the class is that 90% are Caucasian
with 5% African American and 5% Latino. There
are no learning disabilities in the class, but there is
one child who is wheel chair bound and will not be
able to participate in any physical activities. They
have somewhat limited resources since they are
from poorer homes, but they all have access to
computers, internet, and cell phones.
STATE OBJECTIVES
- This day is entirely focused on the couple events
that lead to the official start of the war. The
engagements at Lexington and Concord and the
battle of Bunker Hill to be exact. I am going to use
new kinds of technology to create an interesting
learning environment instead of lecturing them in a
traditional history teacher fashion.
SELECT METHODS,
MEDIA, AND MATERIALS
- Students will need a computer with a webcam facing
themselves so that they can film themselves. This will
allow them to make a video of them talking and teaching
about the battle of Bunker Hill.
- Each student will need a smart phone with internet
capabilities. This is so that they will be able to download
the App Zello and be able to participate in the
communication part of Lexington and Concord.
- I want each student to create a poster. So they will need
large poster boards with markers and a printer.
UTILIZING METHODS,
MEDIA, AND MATERIALS
- The first part of this lesson is going to be the students
making a narrative video of themselves narrating the battle of
Bunker Hill. This will get them used to talking in front of
people and recording themselves. We will use the computers
in the computer lab with web cameras.
- The second part of the lesson will be using Zello. During the
battle of Lexington and Concord the minute men passed the
word of the British approach door to door. I am going to
make a list of the class and they have to pass a message on
zello one after the other by memory and we will see how
different the message is by the end of the class.
- Lastly, I want the class to create large posters with American
assets in the war so that we can hang them in the classroom.
REQUIRE LEARNER
PARTICIPATION
All of these activities will be able to be done by
everyone in the classroom. They are all
technology based and I will have all of these
materials at the school for them. The poster and
video lessons will be graded personally by me. The
zello assignment is more just a fun thing for the
class to do so I will not be grading that.
EVALUATE AND
REVISE
The students enjoyed all of the activities of this
lesson plan. The only thing that I noticed after this
lesson is that they did not retain a ton of
information about Lexington and Concord. I need
find a way to incorporate more information based
learning to that part of the assignment.
