How will we teach in the classroom? What is Digital Citizenship?Digital Citizenship is a concept which helps teachers, technology leaders and parents to understand what students/children/technology users should know to use technology appropriately. Digital Citizenship is more than just a teaching tool; it is a way to prepare students/technology users for a society full of technology. Too often we are seeing students as well as adults misusing and abusing technology but not sure what to do. The issue is more than what the users do not know but what is considered appropriate technology usage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0I13tKrxcA

Editor's Notes

  • #2: Problems have been identified due to open-access forms of ALL technology. We have had several discipline issues this year and this seems to be a growing problem. We have had lawyers come in and speak with the technology staff as well as many trainings on Facebook, cell phones, and social networks.
  • #4: To start off, we want to make sure we all have the same understanding of Digital Citizenship.
  • #5: We want to establish a common language with all teachers across the district. With the nine elements of digital citizenship, we want to make sure that teachers understand each element and know how to teach the students using these elements. Teach coaches, counselors, and SROs will be involved in integrating this into the classroom.
  • #6: Diagram/short version of the nine elements.
  • #7: Many people fill that there is a fine line with Digital Citizenship….should parents do the teaching or teachers? It is part of the curriculum. We have had many speakers come and speak to us on how to protect ourselves as well.
  • #8: Tech Coaches will provide research articles, informative articles, and survey results to committee members. The survey will be completed by parents and students.
  • #12: Nine lessons for the Nine elements? 6 lessons in Elementary and 3 in Middle School
