The Digital India program aims to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy by ensuring government services are electronically available to citizens. Launched in 2015, it includes plans to connect rural areas with high-speed internet and increase digital literacy. The program focuses on six aspects: paperless, efficient, accessible, transparent, citizen-friendly and mobile services. It is estimated to cost 1.25 trillion rupees with investments from government, private sector and ongoing/new schemes. Major technology companies have pledged investments and partnerships to support various Digital India initiatives.
