What is Captivate? Media content authoring tool (screen capture) Software that lets you create “simulations, software demonstrations, scenario-based training, and quizzes without programming or multimedia skills”
Why we wanted to use media authoring software To create tutorials with 24/7 access Ability to create in-house tutorials with a quick turn around and a professional look Complement instructional offerings
What We Did Identify need(s) & audience Review other library online tutorials Outline the tutorial (in Word) Storyboard the tutorial (in PowerPoint) Rehearse Capture Fine-tune Test/Evaluate Distribute/Promote
What We Learned Create a style guide and policy guide Create a committee for approval (for style and content decisions, and buy-in) Some design or editing experience is helpful, but not essential Keep the tutorials short (chapters) Add live boxes and click boxes to engage viewer Fine-tuning/editing can be time consuming Viewing other online library tutorials is helpful
