- 2. ADJUSTMENT LAYERS Adjustment layers and three way colour correction were key in editing my music video as a large amount of it focuses on the aspect of colour and how that affects the narrative. Throughout my whole music video I placed an adjustment layer and 3 way colour corrector across all footage in my music video. The three way colour corrector I believe is the most effective corrector as it allows for the whole colour of the image to be changed and also the input and output levels, highlighting contrast and allowing for a more dramatic look through image manipulation as seen below. I created a cold tone in the example below to fit with the mood of the character and emphasised the brightness, making the image less warm and more sharp. The adjustment layers helped me establish a tone and overall look that it would have been lacking without.
- 3. FOOTAGE CUTTING Cutting down and refining the footage within my music video was the most vital part of creating a music video that flowed. When filming I attempted to film in the correct way to prevent further manipulation such as brightness, exposure etc. I then placed these into premier and began to edit with different layers the better footage that I wished to place in my music video. I allowed the clips to cut with the beat of the music video and consequently allowed for a smooth transition throughout, as the music video progressed I also allowed for more shots to be present, creating a more developed video as it progressed, allowing variation and suspense to be built up. I ensured all lip syncing was in time and fitted with the clip. My video is made up of lots of small pieces of footage edited together.
- 4. SPEED/ WARP STABILISER In the majority of clips throughout my music video I have altered the duration of the speed to half the speed. This being 50%. This creates an effect that time is altered and allows it to be more effective and suited to the themes of my music video. For some clips used I also reversed the footage. This allowed for a subtle difference within my footage that meant some shots could be used numerous times, each time having a different effect and look. Some of the footage within my music video was slightly shaky and consequently I used the warp stabiliser tool or alternatively edited the footage out/slowed it down to prevent sudden shaking.
- 5. TRANSITIONS These are some examples of the transitions used in my music video. I believe straight cuts worked for the majority of my music video but instead chose to not use as many. I deliberately used cross dissolves throughout the majority of my music video to create more effect. It allowed the music video to flow more fluently. I then chose to deliberately not cross dissolve and instead have straight cuts when the video transitioned from outside footage to the black box room. I believe this is an effective technique that allows the footage outside the black box room to have deeper meaning and seem more related to memories within the protagonists mind. This was challenging to try and create but I believe it was successful.
