- 5. Argument and Thesis? An argument takes a stand on an issue. Determine the degree of truth. Persuade audience to a viewpoint. Argument develops to thesis with evidence and proof.
- 6. Example of Argument This is an argument: "This paper argues that the movie MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is inaccurate in its portrayal of MS Dhoni as a bio pic." This is not an argument: "In this paper, I will describe the portrayal of Indian captain MS Dhoni that is shown in the movie MS Dhoni: The Untold Story."
- 7. Example of Thesis This is an argument, but not yet a thesis: "The movie ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ inaccurately portrays MS Dhoni." This is a thesis: "The movie ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ inaccurately portrays MS Dhoni because of the way it ignores Dhoni’s relationship with his brother, and his involvement in Indian cricket team."
- 8. Claim and Argument Arguments are meant to attempts to persuade. Identify the issue, reconstruct argument and evaluating argument. Claims backed by evidence and reasoning are arguments. An argument needs more than one claim. But an argument should have only one conclusion.

- 10. Test # 2 Helping someone to commit suicide is the same as murder. Murder is wrong. Therefore, helping someone to commit suicide is wrong.

- 13. Claims to Arguments It’s going to rain later; I know because I heard the weather forecast on the radio and it’s usually reliable. Obama is a better leader than Bush ever was. He already has the support of most sectors of the population and is well-respected by leaders overseas. I’ve met a few philosophers in my time and they’ve always been strange people, heads in the clouds, not really in touch with the real world. Philosophers are odd, unworldly people. Climate scientists predict that the world is facing environmental catastrophe, and they are the experts on these issues.
