Global warming is caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases trapping heat in the atmosphere, like glass in a greenhouse. This is warming the average surface temperature of the Earth. Climate change refers more broadly to long-term changes in temperature and precipitation patterns. Evidence of global warming includes rising sea levels, increased flooding, and changes over time in images of certain locations. The main cause is the burning of fossil fuels which releases pollution and greenhouse gases. Efforts to reduce emissions include solar and wind power and more fuel-efficient vehicles and appliances. Individuals can help by conserving energy at home and recycling.
