Fasting/They were filled by

1 Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets
and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger,
Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought
up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul.

the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and
Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 So
after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their
hands on them and sent them off.

came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and

of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an
intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he
wanted to hear the word of God.

means) opposed them and tried to turn the
proconsul from the faith. 9 Then Saul, who was also
called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked

the people invited them to speak further about these

was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts

Noon di'y naramdaman ni Elimas na parang tinakpan
ng maitim na ulap ang kanyang mga mata, at siya'y

12 Sumampalataya ang gobernador nang makita
ang nangyari, at humanga siya sa katuruan
tungkol sa Panginoon.

13 Mula sa Pafos, naglayag sina Pablo hanggang sa
Perga sa Pamfilia; humiwalay naman sa kanila si
Juan[c] at nagbalik sa Jerusalem. 14 Mula sa Perga,
nagpatuloy sila hanggang Antioquia sa Pisidia. Nang
Araw ng Pamamahinga, pumasok sila sa sinagoga at
naupo.

15 Matapos basahin ang ilang bahagi ng mga aklat
ng Kautusan at ng mga Propeta, nagpasabi sa kanila
ang mga tagapamahala ng sinagoga, “Mga kapatid,
kung mayroon kayong mensaheng
makapagpapalakas ng loob ng mga tao, maaari
kayong magsalita.”

16 Kaya't tumayo si Pablo at sinenyasan silang
tumahimik,
“Mga Israelita, at kayong lahat na may takot sa
Diyos, makinig kayo!

17 Ang Diyos ng ating bansang Israel ang pumili sa
ating mga ninuno. Sila'y ginawa niyang isang
malaking bansa habang naninirahan pa sila sa
lupain ng Egipto, at sila'y inilabas niya doon sa
pamamagitan ng kanyang dakilang kapangyarihan.

18 Sa loob ng apatnapung taon, sila ay pinagtiisan[d]
niya sa ilang. 19 Nilipol niya ang pitong bansa sa
lupain ng Canaan at ibinigay sa mga Israelita ang
lupain bilang pamana.

20 Naganap ang lahat ng ito sa loob ng halos
apatnaraan at limampung taon.
“Pagkatapos, sila'y binigyan niya ng mga hukom,
hanggang sa panahon ng propetang si Samuel.

21 Nang humingi sila ng hari, ibinigay sa kanila ng
Diyos si Saul na anak ni Cis, isang lalaking mula sa
lipi ni Benjamin. Naghari si Saul sa loob ng
apatnapung taon.

22 At nang siya'y alisin ng Diyos, si David naman
ang pinili ng Diyos upang maghari sa kanila. Sinabi
ng Diyos tungkol sa kanya, ‘Si David, na anak ni
Jesse, ay isang lalaking aking kinalulugdan, na
handang sumunod sa lahat ng nais ko.’

23 “Sa angkan ng lalaking ito nagmula si Jesus, ang
Tagapagligtas na ipinangako ng Diyos sa Israel.

24 Bago siya dumating, nangaral si Juan sa buong
Israel na dapat nilang pagsisihan at talikuran ang
kanilang mga kasalanan, at magpabautismo.

25 Nang matatapos na ni Juan ang kanyang gawain,
sinabi niya sa mga tao, ‘Sino ba ako sa akala ninyo?
Hindi ako ang Cristo. Ngunit siya'y darating na
kasunod ko. At hindi ako karapat-dapat kahit
magkalag man lamang ng kanyang sandalyas.’

26 “Mga kapatid kong mula sa lahi ni Abraham, at
mga taong may takot sa Diyos, tayo ang pinadalhan
ng balitang ito tungkol sa kaligtasan.

27 Hindi nakilala ng mga taga-Jerusalem at ng kanilang
mga pinuno na si Jesus ang Tagapagligtas. Hindi rin nila
naunawaan ang mga pahayag ng mga propeta, na binabasa
nila tuwing Araw ng Pamamahinga. Ngunit sila na rin ang
nagsakatuparan ng pahayag na iyon nang si Jesus ay
hatulan nila ng kamatayan.

28 Kahit na wala silang sapat na dahilan upang
siya'y ipapatay, hiniling pa rin nila kay Pilato na
siya'y hatulan ng kamatayan. 29 At nang matupad
na nila ang lahat ng nasusulat tungkol sa kanya,
siya ay ibinabâ nila sa krus[e] at inilibing.

30 “Subalit siya'y muling binuhay ng Diyos, 31 at sa
loob ng maraming araw, siya ay nagpakita sa mga
sumama sa kanya sa Jerusalem mula sa Galilea.
Ngayon, sila ang mga saksi niya sa mga Israelita.

32 Ngayon ay dala namin sa inyo ang Magandang
Balita, na ang pangako ng Diyos sa ating mga
ninuno

33 ay tinupad niya sa atin na kanilang mga anak, sa
pamamagitan ng muling pagbuhay kay Jesus. Gaya
ng nakasulat sa ikalawang Awit,
‘Ikaw ang aking Anak,
sa araw na ito ako'y naging iyong Ama.’

34 Tungkol naman sa kanyang muling pagkabuhay
at di pagkabulok ng kanyang katawan ay sinabi ng
Diyos,
‘Ipagkakaloob ko sa inyo ang mga banal at
maaasahang pagpapala
gaya ng ipinangako ko kay David.’

35 At sinabi rin niya sa iba pang bahagi,
‘Hindi mo hahayaang makaranas ng pagkabulok ang
iyong Banal.’

36 Nang maisagawa na ni David ang kalooban ng
Diyos para sa kanyang kapanahunan, siya'y
namatay at inilibing sa piling ng kanyang mga
ninuno, at siya'y dumanas ng pagkabulok.

37 Subalit ang muling binuhay ng Diyos ay hindi
dumanas ng pagkabulok.

38 Dapat ninyong malaman, mga kapatid, na sa
pamamagitan ni Jesus ay ipinangangaral sa inyo ang
kapatawaran ng mga kasalanan.

39 At ang lahat ng sumasampalataya sa kanya ay
pinalalaya na sa lahat ng pagkakasala na mula sa
mga ito ay hindi kayo kayang palayain ng Kautusan
ni Moises.

40 Kaya't mag-ingat kayo upang hindi mangyari sa
inyo ang sinabi ng mga propeta,

41 ‘Tingnan ninyo, kayong mga nangungutya!
Manggilalas kayo at mamatay!
Sapagkat isasagawa ko sa inyong kapanahunan
ang isang bagay na hindi ninyo paniniwalaan,
kahit na may magpaliwanag pa nito sa inyo!’”

42 Nang sina Pablo at Bernabe ay palabas na sa
sinagoga, inanyayahan sila ng mga tao na magsalita
muli tungkol sa mga bagay na ito sa susunod na
Araw ng Pamamahinga.

43 Pagkatapos ng pulong, sumunod kina Pablo at
Bernabe ang maraming Judio at mga relihiyosong
Hentil na nahikayat sa Judaismo. Nagsalita sa kanila
ang mga apostol at pinangaralan silang magpatuloy
sa pamumuhay nang nararapat ayon sa
kagandahang-loob ng Diyos.

44 Nang sumunod na Araw ng Pamamahinga, halos
lahat ng tao sa lungsod ay nagkatipon upang
makinig sa salita ng Panginoon.[f] 45 Inggit na
inggit naman ang mga Judio nang makita nila ang
napakaraming tao, kaya't nilait nila at sinalungat si
Pablo.

46 Ngunit buong tapang na sinabi nina Pablo at
Bernabe, “Sa inyo muna sana dapat ipahayag ang
salita ng Diyos. Ngunit dahil itinatakwil ninyo ito,
hinahatulan ninyo ang inyong sarili na kayo'y hindi
karapat-dapat sa buhay na walang hanggan, kaya't
sa mga Hentil na lang kami pupunta.

47 Ganito ang iniutos sa amin ng Panginoon,
‘Inilagay kitang liwanag sa mga Hentil
upang magdala ng kaligtasan hanggang sa dulo
ng daigdig.’”

48 Nang marinig ng mga Hentil ang mga salitang
iyon, sila'y nagalak at nagpuri sa salita ng
Panginoon, at sumampalataya ang lahat ng hinirang
para sa buhay na walang hanggan.

49 Kaya't lumaganap sa buong lupain ang salita ng
Panginoon. 50 Ngunit ang mga pinuno ng lungsod at
ang mga debotong babae na kilala sa lipunan ay
sinulsulan ng mga Judio upang usigin sina Pablo at
Bernabe at palayasin sa lupaing iyon.

51 Kaya't ipinagpag ng dalawa ang alikabok sa
kanilang mga paa bilang saksi laban sa mga
tagaroon, at sila'y nagpunta sa Iconio. 52 Ang mga
alagad naman sa Antioquia ay napuspos ng
kagalakan at ng Espiritu Santo.

By his thirteenth birthday, Paul had
mastered Jewish History, the poetry of the
psalms, and the majestic literature of the
prophets… He was sent to Jerusalem, and for
the next five or six years, he sat at the feet of
Gamaliel, the renowned law teacher.

Under him, Paul learned to dissect a text
according to the considered opinions of
generations of rabbis, and through him, Paul
learned to debate in a question-and-answer style
known in the ancient world as the 'diatribe.'

He quickly outstripped his contemporaries,
making him a likely candidate for a seat on the
highest court on the law, the Sanhedrin, and win
the title “a ruler of the Jews”.

As we journey through the Bible, we recognize that
Jesus did not arrive out of nowhere. From start to
finish, the Bible is a book about Him. Indeed even the
Old Testament prophets, under the inspiration of the
spirit, wrote about Jesus. If we take our eyes off Christ,
then, however well as we know scripture, we will have
missed its center, it’s a key, it’s hero.
