Skybox Imaging was founded in 2009 and was acquired by Google for $500 million in 2014. Skybox launched the world's smallest high resolution imaging satellite, which collects daily images and video. Some advantages of Skybox's satellites include providing up to 90 seconds of HD video at 30 frames per second for counting ships and vehicles, aiding disaster relief, and helping Google Maps stay accurate with updated imagery. However, the satellites cannot capture details as small as license plates or faces.
