CHAPTER TITLE
KEY TERMS:
In this section, identify
each of the key terms
listed under “What’s the
Significance?” at the end
of the chapter.
SUMMARY:
For each “red section”, you must write a two-chunk paragraph that
summarizes all the content. Don’t just pull random sentences from each
of the subsections.
You can use the Jane Shaffer format for writing.
BIG PICTURE QUESTIONS:
In this section, fully answer the “Big Picture Questions” at the end of the chapter. Typically, there are
4-5 questions. I suggest that you write the question so you will remember it.
At the end of your outlining, identify 10 of the visual documents in the chapter and briefly describe.

Lecture Note-takingTips
Do you read a sentence, write down a note,
read a sentence, write down a note? Try to
focus on what I am saying during lecture.
STOP writing down EVERYTHING! You will
need to determine what parts are the
main ideas and their supporting
evidence.
Actively take meaningful notes
during lecture.
Use drawings, symbols
or SPICE icons in your
notes.
Let the outline and lecture notes remind you
what is in the text, referring to the text only
when you need to. Reread the introduction and
conclusion to the chapter. This is a final check
before the exam. (30-45 minutes)
4. REMINDING
Form regular study groups to further discuss
and collaborate on outlining and studying.
