How Does Character Development Of The Character Change...
Behind Every Man of Power is a Lady Telling Them Exactly What to Do: The Differences in
Character Development of Eilonwy in Lloyd Alexander s The Book of Three and Hermione in J.K.
Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone The main characters in Lloyd Alexander s The
Book of Three and J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone would not have completed
their task without the help of their female companions, Eilonwy and Hermione, respectively. However,
even Eilonwy and Hermione could not have helped their male companions without first looking
inwards at their selves and readjusting their attitudes towards Taran and Harry, respectively. The girls
both progress and change over the course of their adventures, and these changes are the ones that help
them in the end. Without progressing and experiencing their character development, the main goal of
the hero could not have been accomplished. The main character would have failed in their journey
without their female friend because the main characters of both books possess certain downfalls that
are only made positive by the girl s influence. Both girls character developments are dissimilar but
ultimately crucial, despite not being the main characters in their respective stories. Eilonwy is
introduced as a quick witted, defensive fighter who matures into a bold but appreciative protector of
Taran. In The Book of Three, Lloyd Alexander first presents Eilonwy as a very headstrong, but
slightly offensive

Sm Mental Health
Hey, are you taking a picture, make sure you tag me in that. Oh did you see my last post last night? We
are the social media (SM) using generation. SM dictates our friendships; it never leaves our side, in
the form of smartphones, text messaging or video calling. Before SM became the first real avenue, in
which people express themselves, people had to resort to face to face communication. Face to face
communication is considered to be the traditional way of human interaction, but with the creation of
SM in the World Wide Web, SM instantaneously throws your ideas out there for the entire world.
According to SM journalist, Emma Stein, SM dependence could be considered a mental issue, since it
is becoming part of our everyday life. To what extent is SM dependence a mental health issue? Are
they really benefiting its users? Many people think so. The development of SM has caused much
controversy. There are people who say that SM can help the youth develop. According to ReachOut
Professionals (ROP) in a recent article, Benefits of Internet and SM, young people can maintain social
connections and also empowers them that otherwise wouldn t be possible without SM. ROP first states
that SM can be used for organizing events to showcase issues, and express opinions, allowing the

Importance Of Propaganda In Journalism
Propaganda Propaganda regards truth and reality. It is deceptive, purposely less than honest, biased,
devoid of a sense of fairness. It attempts to manipulate someone s ideas, actions and attitudes.
Propaganda can be used in journalism by manipulating the story to be exaggerated or simply false. A
journalist or public relations specialist could use a false or photo shopped image in a
newspaper/webpage to sway their audience into thinking the subject of their story is true and not to
their audiences knowledge it has been manipulated.
Semantics Semantics studies how words came to be and what they mean. In a journalistic setting when
covering a story, be sure of what you are actually portraying and what you re trying to say. There are
clear distinctions between what reporting, inferences, and judgements are.
Communitarianism Communitarianism has emphasis on society and the larger majority of a group. In
journalism or public relations and individual would look at what brings people together. For example
(fiction), covering a story about how MSU s Homecoming parade brought helping hands together as
participants prepared to rain proof their floats last minute, which made for a successful homecoming
parade. A non Communitarianism could have reported how the rain ruined the parade and many
townspeople were outraged by the cities/schools decision to cancel the parade.
Libertarianism Libertarianism has emphasis on the individual. In public relations, by having a

Analysis Of Facing It By Yusef Komunyakaa
Facing It is a poem by Yusef Komunyakaa. It is a poem in which the writer uses imagery and
figurative language to express his feelings and his thoughts. He expresses his strong emotions towards
the Vietnam War because he was a veteran. During the poem, he reflects on his thoughts from the war
while he was at the Vietnam Veteran Memorial.
The speaker is visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. In the beginning of the poem, he is trying to
hold back his tears. He is trying to remain strong and brave. When he is at the Vietnam Veteran s
Memorial, he comes across the name Andrew Johnson. As the readers of this poem, I have no clue
who Andrew Johnson is. Andrew Johnson could be someone that was close to him during the war. At
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, you can see your reflection through the walls. The walls at the
memorial are how the narrator speaks about his reflections and what he can see through the walls. The
very last few lines of the poem are when he sees a reflection of a white vet in the Vietnam Veterans
Memorial.
In lines 1 2, my black face fades, hiding inside the black granite he is speaking about how his face is
literally black from the granite wall. He is also speaking how the kind of person we show to the world.
We do not always show who we truly are, people only show the side of their personality that they want
people to see. From these two lines, the narrator brings up the main theme of this poem. In lines 3 5,
the writer is expressing his feelings or he is at least trying not to, he tries to hold back his emotions
from the war. He wants to remain strong because he says, I m stone and flesh He is not literally saying
that he is stone but he is a person that has been through a lot and even after everything he is still alive.
In lines 6 9, imagery is the only thing being used because he is only speaking about his reflection and
how it relates to the granite stone. In lines 10 13, he says, I am inside the Vietnam Veterans Memorial .
From this line, part of the narrator is still stuck at the war. He brings up light and how he wants it to
make a difference. Light is symbolized for how we represent ourselves to others and the kind of
person we truly are. It also plays a big part in the poem

Arguments against purchasing the engines include the significant cost requirement, the opportunity
costs, and the uncertainty of the operating effectiveness of the new engine technology. The cost of the
engines is significant, adding about $21 million dollars to the whole fleet. This money could be spent
on other features on the planes, such as a different engine, individual entertainment options, more
comfortable seats, or forward air stairs . These are the opportunity costs of purchasing the engines and
must also be considered in the decision. Finally, the engines use a technology that, although developed
in the 70s, has not been used on 737s and thus may result in additional costs to ensure the engines

purchasing the green engines, but has a primary focus of establishing a clear financial cost benefit
analysis. SAS s management team will argue that purchasing the engines will have a strong impact on

Biography Of Shirin Neshat, The Third Religious City Of Iran
Born in Qazvin, the third religious city in Iran, in 1957, Shirin Neshat was sent to the United States at
the age of 17, to study art at the UC Berkley. Her father was a physician, who under the influence of
the westernization the fashionable idea of the era and rejecting all the traditional values, sent his
children abroad to continue their studies.
After receiving her MFA in painting, willing to learn more about the western art, Neshat moved to
New York, attended many art classes and artists meetings, and that was when she met her future
husband, a Korean curator Kyong Park, who was the director and founder of Storefront for Art and
Architecture. She calls that time as a good opportunity to get exposed to different artistic ideas and
events.
Stranded in America by the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran, Neshat returned to her country in 1990 for
the first time. She found this journey extremely shocking, due to the huge amount of difference in
Iranian costumes and social behavior, between the after revolution time, and what she could
remember. I had never been in a country that was so ideologically based . She could remember that
chador a black veil that covers most of the body except the face in a movement against the Shah s
dictatorship and the influences of the Western beauty industry, was adopted by educated feminists in
the 1960s and 1970s, and now many women treated the chador as a captive uniform.

As previously mentioned, McMurtry does not really take a side in any of the massacres. In each
account the reader is presented with historically accurate information of what went down, although he
does sometimes slip a stray opinion in; however, this is to be expected in a book where the author is
focusing on the cruelty of humans towards each other. McMurtry explains that it was not just a one
sided battle with Settlers attacking the Native Americans; both groups had their share of bouts against
each other, and they both constantly tried to preemptively strike. It is made evident through some of
the author s comments that although a lot of the Native Americans were able to get along peacefully
together for years and that the majority of tribes were peaceful (with the exception of a few, of
course), the white man invading their sacred land, destroying everything in their path, and raping and
killing their women and children was an infuriating blow to nearly every tribe on the land; I think this
would set just about anyone off. In addition, none of the group is ready to appreciate the other one, or
even consider a truce; instead, they focus more on what will only bring chaos among

Comparing Of Mice And Men And What s Eating Gilbert Grape
What s Eating Gilbert Grape Dir. Lasse Hallstrom and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck are two
very similar pieces of storytelling about caring for the misfortunate. In Of Mice and Men George cares
for his mentally challenged friend Lennie, and in, What s Eating Gilbert Grape, Gilbert takes care of
his mentally disabled brother Arnie. Both George and Gilbert care more for the well being and defence
of their loved one, than they do for their own well being in most cases. In the end of What s Eating
Gilbert Grape, Gilbert s mother dies; in a dramatic and tangible gesture to rid himself of his past,
Gilbert burns their house down. In a symbolic similarity, at the end of Of Mice and Men George kills

George kills Lennie not because he doesn t like Lennie but because he s tired of dealing with him, and
he wants to be able to start over and have a good life, and he knows he can t if Lennie is around.
George is always saying how he wants him and Lennie to live on a farm but is always doubting if
Lennie can stay on track, and he is always wondering if Lennie is gonna mess up their chances.
Comparably Gilbert s decision to burn down his house is his way of proclaiming his starting over, and
symbolically saying that nothing good ever came of that house and that nothing ever would. Gilbert is
talking to Becky and is saying how much he hates living in his house and that he hates how lazy and
fat his mom is. This is more obvious for Gilbert because throughout the whole movie he is completely
selfless and only cares about taking care of his family. Both of their decisions were very important to
show that they were finally taking control of their lives, and that they decided to finally do something
for themselves. Unfortunately in order to do this both characters looked to destructive and violent
ways of freeing themselves. Perhaps these burdens were so great that they had to take destructive
measures to alleviate themselves from them, or perhaps they simply never learned another away and
had to take extreme measure to enact any change in their

The Genesis of Feminism in Literature
Feminism is a theory that all sexes should have political, economic, and social equality. Hawthorne
was a writer during the Romantic Era in literature; one of the many individuals fired by their ideals
sought to tell the world about them through their works (e.g. art, literature, music). Hawthorne was
raised by his spouseless mother, which probably led him to believe women could be equal to men.
Hawthorne grew up with his mother became overly protective and pushed him toward relatively
isolated pursuits (Grade Saver 1). Whilst Hawthorne s single mother life prospered, his odium for the

Comparison of the Effectiveness Of Imagery in “ The Secret...
While writing stories it is importing to keep in mind that readers should be able to picture the story in
their mind while reading. It is best to use effective ways to explain or describe the point; such as,
wording and writing format, in order to grab reader s attention and interest them.
Referring to the readings The secret of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber, and Bartleby the
scrivener written by Melville, both have been written in a great effective way for readers to use their
imagery and develop the ideas of what the story is about. Providing that, both stories have described
the character and setting with enough details to be effective imagery for readers.
Understanding the story and the main characters requires a suitable description of characteristic and
personality of people in the story. Therefore, both stories have introduced the characters with a brief
description to leave a picture of the characters in readers head. In reading The secret of Walter Mitty,
Walter Mitty has been described as a middle age man who has trouble handling mechanical tasks,
forgets mostly everything easily, and someone who is a daydreamer. This description of Walter Mitty
gives readers a picture of a man who may not be able to work very well and may not have a strong
memory. But, daydreams of having great times to forget and not to worry about his sad moments and
his disability. Someone who wants to stay happy and tries to make his life interested and joyful the

The Book Thief Comparison
War exists inside of everyone s lives. You may not be personally affected by it, but it is almost always
there. Both The boy in striped Pajamas and the book thief are set in the midst of WWll, most people
associate war with sadness and death. But strangely enough, both books, told from the perspectives of
children, are mainly about the love that emerges from the war. Firstly, The boy in striped Pajamas is
about a young boy named Bruno whose father is a high ranking Nazi officer. They are sent to live in a

By denying reality, you are essentially protecting yourself from the having to face and deal with the
unpleasant consequences and pain that accompany acceptance Repression There is a fine line between
denial and repression. But where denial involves the outright refusal to accept a given reality,
repression involves completely forgetting the experience altogether. With repression, your mind makes
the decision to bury the memory in the subconscious, thereby preventing painful, disturbing or
dangerous thoughts from entering awareness Reaction Formation With reaction formation, you are

A Comparison Of The Tanach And Bible
A Comparison of the Tanach and Bible
Each religion has a sacred text which is used to understand their worldview and their religion better. A
sacred text is what a religion believes is holy and authoritative. Religious texts show its followers
what to do in worship, daily living and conduct. While Christianity and Judaism have numerous
similarities because of the mother daughter link, differences still exist. The sacred text for Judaism is
the Tanach while for Christianity the Bible is used. This essay will explore the structure of each sacred
text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily practice
such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue.
STRUCTURE OF EACH CANON
The Bible is known as authoritative written source (Bowley, 1999) and is a library of 66 books and is
made of two parts: Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books). The Bible was only
officially put together around the third century. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and
Aramaic while the New Testament was written in Greek. During the Reformation, scholars wanted to
allow everyone to read the Bible in their own languages (Beck et al, 2000). Now, the Bible is written
in over 1600 languages. However, Jewish people only read the Torah in Hebrew. The Old Testament is
similar to the Torah where the books are exactly the same.

bedroom lamps. Not only will they provide sufficient light for a person to be able to see what they are
doing whilst in bed, but also will provide the room with a very stylish touch.
So as you can see from above there are a number of different ways you can use bedroom lamps to
enhance the feel and overall design look of your room. Therefore, rather than sticking with the more
traditional take a look around your lighting store or online to see what other ideas you could
incorporate to provide the right kind of lighting for your bedroom in the

Worth noticing is how Toyota outperforms most competitors until 2009 when they instead showed the
poorest operating margin. For all compared companies, 2009 is the worst year and only VW and
BMW are able to generate a positive OM. Operating Margin | 2004 | 2005 | 2006 | 2007 | 2008 | 2009 |

When comparing the Inventory Turnover, Toyota is outstanding in its performance just as known to
be. BMW had the second highest inventory turnover in 2009, which has improved continuously
throughout the measured time (worst in 2004). For Daimler and Volkswagen the trend is instead
negative.

The Effects Of Standardized Cognitive Tests On Student...
There is an exorbitant amount of focus on standardized cognitive tests in K 12 education today
particularly measures of intelligence and achievement. The usefulness of these tests notwithstanding,
they are limited in that they provide an incomplete picture of a student s abilities and needs. Having
worked 14 years as an English teacher at Bergen County Technical School of Paramus (Bergen Tech),
a vocational technical high school with a predominantly special needs population, I find it unfortunate
that the educational psychologists with whom I work have in recent years been directed to focus on
cognitive tests such as the Woodcock Johnson Test of Achievement and the Wechsler Adult
Intelligence Scale, to the exclusion of non cognitive measures that could provide insight into student
emotional health and personality. For school staff endeavoring to help students negotiate the path to
adulthood and guide them toward brighter more fulfilling futures, personality assessment could be
used to help clarify needs, determine the severity of problems, make predictions about future
behaviors, and aid in educational recommendations.
It is necessary to highlight some of the complications unique to Bergen Tech Paramus and other vo
tech schools so as to fully appreciate the potential benefit of reintroduction of regular personality
testing. Unlike the trade schools prevalent in Western Europe, which are regarded as normal and
respectable paths to gainful employment, vo tech schools in the

Raisin In The Sun Relevant
The play A Raisin in the Sun is still relevant. There are still people who have dreams that are yet to
come true. As long as their are people who dream, there will be relevance in a play like A Raisin in the
Sun. Today, there are people who still live in poverty. They still have nothing but dreams. They
struggle to survive in the dog eat dog world in which we live. No doubt, there is still racism. Although
we have come a long way, there are still racist people in the world. There are still people who have

Slam, Dunk and Hook, and Fast Break
In the game of basketball there are two items that are required to play, a ball and a hoop. In the poems
Slam, Dunk and Hook by Yusef Komunyakaa and Fast Break by Edward Hirsch, the authors describe
the sport of basketball in their own views. Depending on where you are, people view basketball
differently. Basketball may be a mans best friend. The court may be a home for some. In these poems,
the authors view the game of basketball entirely different. The correspondence amidst a player and the
game of basketball is key in these poems, for it may be distinct depending one where you live and
how you view the game. Both authors have a contrasting rhythm that contemplate the rate of the sport.
In Edward s poem, there are not many commas or periods. Reading through it, it flows gently. Hirsch
s view on the game is how gently it is. When the player goes up and down the court, the ball dribbles
slowly. It also shows how the game is slow and swifts thoroughly. The poem is chopped down into
many into small units showing how a basketball team is divided by players. In Yusef s poem, the lines
are going by fast. He uses numerous amounts of commas and periods. The periods and commas show
how fast the heart of a player beats on the court. Yusefs view of the ball bouncing is fast paced and
rapid. Players here are tough and energetic, while in Hirsch s poem, the players tend to relax more and
play with such elegance. Both poets show love and compassion for the game, but both poets

Describe The Behavior Of Johnny Tremain
The behavior of Johnny Tremain played one of the biggest parts in this book. Johnny Tremain either
pushed people away or became very close with them. Helping people was one of his specialties but, he
would become very hostile when they tried to help him back. Johnny had a bad hand and because of
this he would sometimes do stuff wrong and he would get mad. Before his hand got injured he would
become proud of his silversmith work. Johnny Tremain was rebellious when it came to work or to
prove he is worthy of something. It was Sunday afternoon, in Boston, at the Laphams shop where
Johnny borke sabbath to work on a sugar basin for John Hancock. December 16th, at nightfall,

Cpr ( American Thoracic Society )
What is CPR? CPR stands for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. It is a medical technique used to treat
shortness of breath (American Thoracic Society). There are two types of CPR (American Thoracic
Society). The first of these two types is called Basic life Support (BLS) which is the form of CPR that
we see in most movies (American Thoracic Society). In BLS we use a combination of chest
compressions and artificial breathing (mouth to mouth) to stabilize a patient (American Thoracic
Society). The second Type of CPR is called Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) in this form of
CPR makes use of a combination of electric shocks, medication, or a ventilator (American Thoracic
Society).
What is CPR meant to treat? CPR can be used to treat Overdoses, excessive bleeding (after the wound
has been wrapped) Heart problems, infections in the blood stream, drowning, strokes, electrical
shocks, choking, lung disease, and poisoning(Heller, J. L. (n.d.). CPR).
In order to preform CPR you must follow the following steps, First Check your surroundings, make
sure there is nothing nearby that will injure your or the person in need of CPR (CPR illustrated in
three simple steps) Next, check for any response from the patient, shout or shake their shoulders

An Analysis Of Billy Joel s Song We Didn T Start The Fire
Billy Joel in his song We Didn t Start The Fire claims that the current generation, as of the time the
song was written, did not, in fact, start the fire. Thought the song many events are listed until the
chorus comes along again to remind the listener the they did not start the fire. The fire in this song that
Billy Joel speaks of are crazy and shocking events in the world not only being generally harmful to the
public but events that changed how people viewed things. The song s repetition of not starting the fire,
the lengthy lines used for verses that completely list events, and the listing of events as opposed to
common verses in an average song shows how they did not start the fire and the fire had been going
on for generations and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the song being so different from an average song, it makes the song feel filled in the verses, with
all of the events that he provides, in the short time that the song plays. The song s verses are entirely
evidence for Billy Joel s claim that the fire had not been started by him or his group and with so many
examples, there is no time to put reasoning behind it but rather connect the ideas to the major point,
being the chorus. With so many examples one after another as the song continues through its verses
Billy Joel is listing as many examples as he can to prove the point of the fire having been already
started. As he lists these events he is pushing forward so many examples against the argument without
taking any look at another side which shows how he is not only annoyed by the claim that he did start
the fire but also how he wants to push his side. With so much evidence being thrown at the listener it s
impossible to refute what he is saying. His strange verses being entirely made up of listed evidence
towards his claim, it supports his argument in a strange and uncharacteristic way for an average

Social Reformers Support Prohibition
The eighteenth amendment established prohibition, which was the banning of the manufacturing and
sale of alcohol. Interestingly, prohibition caused many different and unintended consequences for
America. When the eighteenth amendment was established, many people supported prohibition
because of the social benefits. The Church supported prohibition because many Christians saw
drinking as a sin. Many business men supported prohibition, because this would reduce the amount of
absences at work and would increase production and efficiency. Furthermore, many social reformers
supported prohibition, since it would benefit the family unit. Since fathers would not be drinking, this
would allow more money to be spent on necessities, and would reduce

Helping people who are in danger is not a matter of courage but from making a decision that every
human being has to make in his life when he or she distinguishes between good and bad. Miep Gies.
The Medal of Honor, one of the highest medals that one can receive. Miep Gies, one of the people in
whom helped hide multiple Jewish families should get a Medal of Honor. She had helped the
aforementioned families with food, shelter and the necessary things needed for those families to
survive. One major factor in this decision is how long Miep kept the families in hiding. The families
were kept in hiding, with Miep s help for twenty five months, or about one year and one month. This
time may not seem that long, but keep in mind that during that time that the ... Show more content on

Honestly, it was also difficult for Miep, the caretaker of these families plus the others to keep quiet
about the Jewish families. Plus she had to try to get food to the families. Secondly, hiding the families
had been hard. Miep Gies had at the time broken a law. She mainly began breaking the law by hiding
the families and continuing to hide the families. She also had to try to get resources to the families
without being suspicious. Then, each family member had different needs than another. Miep also had
to get what these specific members wanted. This was most likely a challenge, especially to smuggle
the items. Some people may say that Miep Gies does not deserve a Medal of Honor. These people are
in the wrong. Miep has and until her death cared for the families. She cared and hid the Jewish
families, and by doing so she was risking her own life. Every day for the twenty five months that the
families were in hiding, she risked her life knowing that if she was ever found out, then she might be
killed, be put into a concentration camp, have horrible things done to her. Miep had not abandoned the

Essay about Gods from Outer Space by Erich Von Daniken
Gods From Outer Space This was a very interesting book to read. Erich Von Daniken is the author,
whose previous works include The Chariots of the Gods and The Gold of the Gods which in actuality
was published after this one. This book right off the bat goes into some detail about our author. It
specifically says Erich Von Daniken is not a scholar. He is an autodidact, someone who is self taught.
That is what made his previous book so successful, due to the fact he isn t impartial on anything. He
his free of prejudice from colleagues and professors. His audience, so it seems, isn t directed towards
anyone particular group of people, but to anybody with the curiosity and willingness to imagine and to

There is no concrete evidence, nor will there ever likely be any. According to the good Erich Von
Daniken the methods and regulations of archeology hinder its progress to unearth the great mysteries
of our history; new means must be achieved if the world is to ever know our true origins. Over all this
book is filled with simplistic terminology, not once did I have to run to a dictionary to look up some
scientific word. With the ease and flow of the authors words, anyone should be able to pick this book
up and jump right in. It s not even necessary to read from the first page, you could jump right into
chapter 6 and know what is going on. Each chapter deals with a different unexplained mystery into our
past, sometimes taking ideas or explanations from a previous chapter and incorporating those into a
more elaborate scheme of things later on. So, if you jump into the middle of a theory it s definitely
going to make you want to go back a little and find out more detail about something he mentioned
earlier. You really don t have to go back to find out what s going on; the author just has a very bad
habit of making you think. The presentation and layout of his ideas are perfect; they always follow a
small story or some ancient folk lore that already get your mind flowing into the extremes possibilities
of ancient history. I was very eager to read this book,

Evolution And Development Within Our Society
Designed Humanity You cannot tell which one is which, as they all look to be average. But then you
see the identical ones, the ones with technology infused artificial joints, or the ones whom poses a
slight fluorescent skin. And by the time you notice it, they are everywhere and you are the only true
human left. As time reaches further, we find ourselves living in the new age of technology, political
rivalries, and weapons of mass destruction that are no longer radical cartoonists ideas from the
television series Roadrunner. This upward rollercoaster of evolution and development within our
society leaves one to ponder over one crucial thing: how will it all come crashing down? There are
many elements around us that could lead to our own horrifying conclusion and it becomes a simple
coin toss to decide our fate. But as many scientistic developments and fictional novels have foretold,
the desperate search for the advancement of the human race itself can come as glimpse into the mystic
future or possibly the end of us completely. Genetic mutations, at first a simple random mole found of
the exterior of the body and the shade of blue of one s eye seem to be innocent developments in
human appearance, but has soon evolved into a evolution shortcut. The increasing development and
advancement in genetic research and deliberate mutation originates from the eternal and illusionistic
desire for human perfection. The term of human remains the ordinary description in which we

White American Bigotry
White Americans, who make a big share of policymakers, criminal equity professionals, the media,
and the overall population, overestimate the extent of felonies perpetrated by ethnic minorities and the
extent of racial minorities who carry out unlawful acts. Indeed, even people who condemn bigotry
regularly harbor unconscious and accidental racial inclinations. Researchers before 2010 focused their
studies on a how African Americans were perceived and how they were treated differently . Maxwell
in his work entitled The Impact of Race on the Adjudication of Sexual Assault and Other Violent
Crimes focuses on how white Americans are treated fairly compared to black litigants and Brennan s
work entitled Depictions Of Female Offenders In Front Page Newspaper Stories: The Importance Of
Race/Ethnicity depicts how black offenders have a negative image. Whereas the research that was
conducted after 2010 focused on actual cases , how the legal system is stacked up against them and

Great Chicago Fire Dbq
In 1871 October eighth, the fire known as the Great Chicago fire almost illiberated the whole city. So,
because of the Great Chicago fire, we start to think of three questions. What seems to have caused the
fire? What factors contributed to the spread of the fire? Could the disaster have been prevented? For
the first question is what seems to have caused the fire? The fire was caused by the unusually warm
weather in October, a lot of wood things made, and in poorer districts the lot sizes were small and
were filled with cottages, barns, sheds, and outhouses. The warm weather not only caused the fire but
because of it, crops were often destroyed. Anyways, we couldn t do anything since we didn t control
the weather but, the buildings, interiors, and lot sizes we could ve done something. Instead of making
the buildings out of wood, we could ve made it out of bricks and stones. Instead of having poorer ...

Factors that contributed the spread of the fire was the shed of the barn included two tons of coal for
winter and large supply of kindling wood and the barn s loft held over three tons of hay. If it s hot, dry,

Coal and wood not a good combination. If there is fire and hay together it s going to cause trouble.
Could the disaster have been prevented? In my opinion, yes, the disaster could have been prevented. If
the buildings or even the interior was made out of fire there wouldn t be the spread of fire. If the lot
sizes in poorer districts were a little bigger the citizens at the time wouldn t stuff so much buildings in
the lot. If the citizens of the time put things that cause fire in the different buildings there wouldn t be
factors that caused the disaster. But, in the end we realize that we humans aren t perfect. We learn our

The Redemption of King Lear?
Shakespeare s play, King Lear is quite renowned and the folly of the ancient King is a
great example of how not to handle family relationships. The question has been proposed
if King Lear is redeemed when reunited with Cordelia. King Lear does achieve a kind of
redemption when he is reunited with Cordelia in Acts IV and V of the tragedy. What kind
of redemption he achieves is open to interpretation. In order to understand the King s
redemption, it must be determined what the King is redeemed from. Once this sin is
established, an analysis can be made as to when the King is redeemed, and how. ... Show more content

Baby Busters Vs Baby Boomers
Currently, there are five main generations. Traditionalists are the oldest generation, being born
between 1900 and 1945. They only constitute 5% of the current workforce, as most have retired
(Wiedmer 2015, 51). The baby boomers are the oldest and largest generation currently in the
workforce (Wong et al. 2008, 878). This generation was born following World War II between 1945
and 1964, with approximately 76 million individuals (Wiedmer 2015, 52). Generation X was born
from 1965 to 1981 and is also known as the baby busters because their birth rates are vastly lower than
the baby boomers (Wiedmer 2015, 53). Generation Y, or the millennials, was born between 1982 and
1995 and grew up in a very different time compared to their predecessors, with

  • 2. How Does Character Development Of The Character Change... Behind Every Man of Power is a Lady Telling Them Exactly What to Do: The Differences in Character Development of Eilonwy in Lloyd Alexander s The Book of Three and Hermione in J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone The main characters in Lloyd Alexander s The Book of Three and J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone would not have completed their task without the help of their female companions, Eilonwy and Hermione, respectively. However, even Eilonwy and Hermione could not have helped their male companions without first looking inwards at their selves and readjusting their attitudes towards Taran and Harry, respectively. The girls both progress and change over the course of their adventures, and these changes are the ones that help them in the end. Without progressing and experiencing their character development, the main goal of the hero could not have been accomplished. The main character would have failed in their journey without their female friend because the main characters of both books possess certain downfalls that are only made positive by the girl s influence. Both girls character developments are dissimilar but ultimately crucial, despite not being the main characters in their respective stories. Eilonwy is introduced as a quick witted, defensive fighter who matures into a bold but appreciative protector of Taran. In The Book of Three, Lloyd Alexander first presents Eilonwy as a very headstrong, but slightly offensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sm Mental Health Hey, are you taking a picture, make sure you tag me in that. Oh did you see my last post last night? We are the social media (SM) using generation. SM dictates our friendships; it never leaves our side, in the form of smartphones, text messaging or video calling. Before SM became the first real avenue, in which people express themselves, people had to resort to face to face communication. Face to face communication is considered to be the traditional way of human interaction, but with the creation of SM in the World Wide Web, SM instantaneously throws your ideas out there for the entire world. According to SM journalist, Emma Stein, SM dependence could be considered a mental issue, since it is becoming part of our everyday life. To what extent is SM dependence a mental health issue? Are they really benefiting its users? Many people think so. The development of SM has caused much controversy. There are people who say that SM can help the youth develop. According to ReachOut Professionals (ROP) in a recent article, Benefits of Internet and SM, young people can maintain social connections and also empowers them that otherwise wouldn t be possible without SM. • 4. Importance Of Propaganda In Journalism Propaganda Propaganda regards truth and reality. It is deceptive, purposely less than honest, biased, devoid of a sense of fairness. It attempts to manipulate someone s ideas, actions and attitudes. Propaganda can be used in journalism by manipulating the story to be exaggerated or simply false. A journalist or public relations specialist could use a false or photo shopped image in a newspaper/webpage to sway their audience into thinking the subject of their story is true and not to their audiences knowledge it has been manipulated. Semantics Semantics studies how words came to be and what they mean. In a journalistic setting when covering a story, be sure of what you are actually portraying and what you re trying to say. There are clear distinctions between what reporting, inferences, and judgements are. Communitarianism Communitarianism has emphasis on society and the larger majority of a group. In journalism or public relations and individual would look at what brings people together. For example (fiction), covering a story about how MSU s Homecoming parade brought helping hands together as participants prepared to rain proof their floats last minute, which made for a successful homecoming parade. A non Communitarianism could have reported how the rain ruined the parade and many townspeople were outraged by the cities/schools decision to cancel the parade. • 5. Analysis Of Facing It By Yusef Komunyakaa Facing It is a poem by Yusef Komunyakaa. It is a poem in which the writer uses imagery and figurative language to express his feelings and his thoughts. He expresses his strong emotions towards the Vietnam War because he was a veteran. During the poem, he reflects on his thoughts from the war while he was at the Vietnam Veteran Memorial. The speaker is visiting the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. In the beginning of the poem, he is trying to hold back his tears. He is trying to remain strong and brave. When he is at the Vietnam Veteran s Memorial, he comes across the name Andrew Johnson. As the readers of this poem, I have no clue who Andrew Johnson is. Andrew Johnson could be someone that was close to him during the war. At the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, you can see your reflection through the walls. The walls at the memorial are how the narrator speaks about his reflections and what he can see through the walls. The very last few lines of the poem are when he sees a reflection of a white vet in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. In lines 1 2, my black face fades, hiding inside the black granite he is speaking about how his face is literally black from the granite wall. He is also speaking how the kind of person we show to the world. We do not always show who we truly are, people only show the side of their personality that they want people to see. From these two lines, the narrator brings up the main theme of this poem. In lines 3 5, the writer is expressing his feelings or he is at least trying not to, he tries to hold back his emotions from the war. He wants to remain strong because he says, I m stone and flesh He is not literally saying that he is stone but he is a person that has been through a lot and even after everything he is still alive. In lines 6 9, imagery is the only thing being used because he is only speaking about his reflection and how it relates to the granite stone. In lines 10 13, he says, I am inside the Vietnam Veterans Memorial . From this line, part of the narrator is still stuck at the war. He brings up light and how he wants it to make a difference. Light is symbolized for how we represent ourselves to others and the kind of person we truly are. It also plays a big part in the poem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arguments against purchasing the engines include the significant cost requirement, the opportunity costs, and the uncertainty of the operating effectiveness of the new engine technology. The cost of the engines is significant, adding about $21 million dollars to the whole fleet. This money could be spent on other features on the planes, such as a different engine, individual entertainment options, more comfortable seats, or forward air stairs . These are the opportunity costs of purchasing the engines and must also be considered in the decision. Finally, the engines use a technology that, although developed in the 70s, has not been used on 737s and thus may result in additional costs to ensure the engines operate properly and are delivered on time. Arguments for and against purchasing the green engines SA S management team The management team at SAS has many of the same arguments for purchasing the green engines, but has a primary focus of establishing a clear financial cost benefit analysis. SAS s management team will argue that purchasing the engines will have a strong impact on its brand image and will allow the company to compete in the industry through its customer s loyalty. Biography Of Shirin Neshat, The Third Religious City Of Iran Born in Qazvin, the third religious city in Iran, in 1957, Shirin Neshat was sent to the United States at the age of 17, to study art at the UC Berkley. Her father was a physician, who under the influence of the westernization the fashionable idea of the era and rejecting all the traditional values, sent his children abroad to continue their studies. After receiving her MFA in painting, willing to learn more about the western art, Neshat moved to New York, attended many art classes and artists meetings, and that was when she met her future husband, a Korean curator Kyong Park, who was the director and founder of Storefront for Art and Architecture. She calls that time as a good opportunity to get exposed to different artistic ideas and events. Stranded in America by the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran, Neshat returned to her country in 1990 for the first time. She found this journey extremely shocking, due to the huge amount of difference in Iranian costumes and social behavior, between the after revolution time, and what she could remember. I had never been in a country that was so ideologically based . She could remember that chador a black veil that covers most of the body except the face in a movement against the Shah s dictatorship and the influences of the Western beauty industry, was adopted by educated feminists in the 1960s and 1970s, and now many women treated the chador as a captive uniform. In each account the reader is presented with historically accurate information of what went down, although he does sometimes slip a stray opinion in; however, this is to be expected in a book where the author is focusing on the cruelty of humans towards each other. McMurtry explains that it was not just a one sided battle with Settlers attacking the Native Americans; both groups had their share of bouts against each other, and they both constantly tried to preemptively strike. It is made evident through some of the author s comments that although a lot of the Native Americans were able to get along peacefully together for years and that the majority of tribes were peaceful (with the exception of a few, of course), the white man invading their sacred land, destroying everything in their path, and raping and killing their women and children was an infuriating blow to nearly every tribe on the land; I think this would set just about anyone off. • 11. Comparing Of Mice And Men And What s Eating Gilbert Grape What s Eating Gilbert Grape Dir. Lasse Hallstrom and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck are two very similar pieces of storytelling about caring for the misfortunate. In Of Mice and Men George cares for his mentally challenged friend Lennie, and in, What s Eating Gilbert Grape, Gilbert takes care of his mentally disabled brother Arnie. Both George and Gilbert care more for the well being and defence of their loved one, than they do for their own well being in most cases. Comparably Gilbert s decision to burn down his house is his way of proclaiming his starting over, and symbolically saying that nothing good ever came of that house and that nothing ever would. Gilbert is talking to Becky and is saying how much he hates living in his house and that he hates how lazy and fat his mom is. This is more obvious for Gilbert because throughout the whole movie he is completely selfless and only cares about taking care of his family. Both of their decisions were very important to show that they were finally taking control of their lives, and that they decided to finally do something for themselves. Unfortunately in order to do this both characters looked to destructive and violent ways of freeing themselves. While writing stories it is importing to keep in mind that readers should be able to picture the story in their mind while reading. It is best to use effective ways to explain or describe the point; such as, wording and writing format, in order to grab reader s attention and interest them. Referring to the readings The secret of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber, and Bartleby the scrivener written by Melville, both have been written in a great effective way for readers to use their imagery and develop the ideas of what the story is about. The sacred text for Judaism is the Tanach while for Christianity the Bible is used. This essay will explore the structure of each sacred text, the type of literature is in each canon, authorship of the text and how it is used in daily practice such as food, interpretation of the commandments and how a Torah is used in a synagogue. STRUCTURE OF EACH CANON The Bible is known as authoritative written source (Bowley, 1999) and is a library of 66 books and is made of two parts: Old Testament (39 books) and New Testament (27 books). The Bible was only officially put together around the third century. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew and Aramaic while the New Testament was written in Greek. During the Reformation, scholars wanted to allow everyone to read the Bible in their own languages (Beck et al, 2000). Now, the Bible is written in over 1600 languages. However, Jewish people only read the Torah in Hebrew. The Old Testament is similar to the Torah where the books are exactly the same. The New Testament is made up of the gospels and letters. • 22. The Effects Of Standardized Cognitive Tests On Student... There is an exorbitant amount of focus on standardized cognitive tests in K 12 education today particularly measures of intelligence and achievement. The usefulness of these tests notwithstanding, they are limited in that they provide an incomplete picture of a student s abilities and needs. Having worked 14 years as an English teacher at Bergen County Technical School of Paramus (Bergen Tech), a vocational technical high school with a predominantly special needs population, I find it unfortunate that the educational psychologists with whom I work have in recent years been directed to focus on cognitive tests such as the Woodcock Johnson Test of Achievement and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, to the exclusion of non cognitive measures that could provide insight into student emotional health and personality. For school staff endeavoring to help students negotiate the path to adulthood and guide them toward brighter more fulfilling futures, personality assessment could be used to help clarify needs, determine the severity of problems, make predictions about future behaviors, and aid in educational recommendations. It is necessary to highlight some of the complications unique to Bergen Tech Paramus and other vo tech schools so as to fully appreciate the potential benefit of reintroduction of regular personality testing. Unlike the trade schools prevalent in Western Europe, which are regarded as normal and respectable paths to gainful employment, vo tech schools in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the poems Slam, Dunk and Hook by Yusef Komunyakaa and Fast Break by Edward Hirsch, the authors describe the sport of basketball in their own views. Depending on where you are, people view basketball differently. Basketball may be a mans best friend. The court may be a home for some. In these poems, the authors view the game of basketball entirely different. The correspondence amidst a player and the game of basketball is key in these poems, for it may be distinct depending one where you live and how you view the game. Both authors have a contrasting rhythm that contemplate the rate of the sport. In Edward s poem, there are not many commas or periods. Reading through it, it flows gently. Hirsch s view on the game is how gently it is. When the player goes up and down the court, the ball dribbles slowly. It also shows how the game is slow and swifts thoroughly. The poem is chopped down into many into small units showing how a basketball team is divided by players. In Yusef s poem, the lines are going by fast. He uses numerous amounts of commas and periods. The periods and commas show how fast the heart of a player beats on the court. Yusefs view of the ball bouncing is fast paced and rapid. Players here are tough and energetic, while in Hirsch s poem, the players tend to relax more and play with such elegance. Both poets show love and compassion for the game, but both poets ...
