Diploma Programme
2 Years of learning 6 subjects in 6
groups:
• Languages and Literature
• Language Acquisition
• Individuals and Societies
• Sciences
• Mathematics
• Arts/2nd Ind. Soc/2nd Science
Core
• Theory of Knowledge
• Extended Essay
• Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)
Examinations at the end of the 2 years include:
• A combination of Internal and External
Assessments
Internal Assessments (20-30%):
• A required assignment set by the IB that
shows the ability of the student to complete
an inquiry into the subject:
– Investigations, experiments, written
tasks, oral tasks
• “Banking” a mark
External Assessments (70-80%)
• 1-3 Examinations (Paper 1, 2, 3)
• May of the graduating year
• 3 weeks
• Results are shared by the IB in July
What Are
Points?
Higher Level courses
• Must earn a minimum of 12 points
• Each HL subject must earn a
minimum of 3 points
Must earn 24 points
● Every subject earns between 1-7
points
● Students can earn up to 42 points
● Only 1% of all IB students
world-wide earn 42
● World average: 30
● Prem average: 31
● Additional points with the Core
● up to 3 points
● matrix of how this divides
● An E in either will not allow
receipt of the Diploma
Projected versus Predicted Grades
Projected Grades
Are assessed by teachers in October
of the 2nd year in the IB:
• Results from the 1st year of study
• Approach and effort
• End of year SS examination results
• Results and effort from term 1 of
the 2nd year
For University applications
Teachers are asked to be optimistically
realistic
Include: EE and TOK letter grades
Predicted Grades
Are assessed by teachers in March
of the 2nd year in the IB:
• The full 2 year overview of work
completed
• Approach and effort
• Internal Assessment results
Reported to the IB
Parents informed if the predicted grade
changes by 2 points from the projected
grade.

– Covering 2 years of work
– The challenge
– Mark Schemes different for
each

Review the examples and consider:
• The variety of assessments that
need to be completed
• The variety of mark schemes
How can we support the students to
complete these tasks at a high level?
Marking an assessment
As a group or individually, choose one of the assessments to mark
• Read the assessment
• Use/review the mark scheme
• Assess the work
• Record your mark on the document provided
Choose another assignment and complete the task again
Support for DP Students
• Keep track of deadlines to organize work
• Ensure that all work is submitted on time for first level of feedback and then
reworked for the final submission
• Academic Honesty:
– Plagiarism
– Collusion
– Malpractice
• Editing:
– Teachers and supervisors cannot fully edit work
– Can request support from family and friends - but within the context of grammar and minor
corrections, not content
• Balance of life:
– Academic
– CAS
– Personal/Health and Well-Being
