The Index-Based Livestock Insurance (IBLI) program aids pastoralists in northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia in managing drought-related livestock mortality through innovative, index-based insurance, avoiding traditional insurance challenges. Utilizing ICT infrastructure, the program provides cost-effective sales and information management, with features like mobile and web platforms designed with stakeholder involvement and local language support. Despite challenges such as poor mobile coverage and device costs, the system enhances the sustainability of IBLI services and aims to include additional value features in the future.
