 Introducing this subject , initial step is
understanding the different concepts , different
definitions and overall structure of subject .
 As considered my subject it is necessary to

combating actual or perceived threats”.

  India is a big country with a dominant position in
world affairs.
 For such a country like India it is necessary to have
military forces which serves for maintaining law and
order and security of nation that may be internal or
external .
 ” the Indian armed military forces are the military
forces of republic India”
 the president of India is a supreme commander of the
Indian armed forces.
WHAT IS STRUCTURE OF INDIAN MILITARY
FORCES?
 The Indian military is under the management of the
ministry of defense .
 They consist of ARMY, NAVY,AIR FORCE, COAST
GUARD and PARAMILITARY FORCES.
 Generally military forces are active or reserved. active
means working military.
 India is one of the worlds largest military forces.
  Indian military consists of 4,768,407 personals out of
which 1,300,586 are paramilitary personals.

WHAT ARE RESERVED OR PARAMILITARY
FORCES ?

  We can define paramilitary forces as “ forces or
groups that are distinct fro the regular armed forces
of country , but resembling them in
organization, equipment training , or mission “.
 In India paramilitary forces are those government
organization that help military forces, help in
disaster management and control civil agitations.

SOME OF MAIN OPERATIONS BY PARAMILITARY
FORCES ARE
 1 . Combating terrorism.
 This include antiterrorism and counterterrorism.
 2 . Anti-smuggling operations.
 3 . Humanitarian assistance.
 This include operations to retrieve or reduce the
results of natural or manmade disaster
 4 . Support civil authorities.
 5 . Non-combatant evaluation operations.
WHY THERE IS A NEED FOR PARAMILITARY
FORCES ?
With it’s large area , diversity and
kilometers of borders , India needs
specialized forces that can maintain
law and order in disturbed areas and
keep vigilance on borders.
Also there may arise diverse
conditions due to natural as well as
manmade catastrophe or civil
agitations
to handle such conditions there
must be a organization .
 For solution to this problem India
came up with concept of
paramilitary forces.
WHAT ARE DIFFERENT PARAMILITARY
FORCES IN INDIA ?
There are overall 13 paramilitary
forces .
 They are classified as following
 1 . National level
 2 . State level
 3 . Assisting organizations
NATIONAL LEVEL
 1 . Border security force :-
  The main role of BSF is security of
border of India .
 It functions to promote a sense of security
among the people living in border.
NATIONAL LEVEL
2 . Central Industrial security force:
 The central Industrial security force
is responsible for security services at
ports and other transportation facilities
as well as in other facilities .

3 . Central reserved police force:
The central reserved police force is
an armed force of the union of India,
with the basic role of striking reserve
to assist the state territories in police
operations to maintain law and order
and contain insurgency.

4 .Indo-Tibetian border police:
 ITBP is multidimensional force.
  ITBP battalions are also deployed on
anti-terrorism duties and VIP security duties
in strategic locations.
 ITBP conducts long range and short
range patrols to keep an effective vigil on
inaccessible and unmanned areas on
border.

 5 . Rashtriya Rifles :
 Rashtriya rifles is a light elite
counterinsurgency formed specifically to
compensate for inadequate local police and
increasingly well armed insurgents in
kashmir.

 Important role of NSG is to fight terrorism
in whatever form it may assume in areas
where activity of terrorists assumes serious
proportions and state police can not cope
up with the situations .

duties with teams in a constant
state of alert.

 The main task for railway protection

ASSAM RIFLES
  Assam rifle is a paramilitary organization
of ministry of home affairs working under the
operational control of army.
 These forces came in existence in the
latter part of eighteenth century , when
britisher’s create a small force of 750
combatants to guard the settlements and
tea estates against revages by local tribes.
 That time these forces were known as
“Cachar levy” .It undergone many changes
like Cachar levy, assam military force,
frontier police and lastly assam rifle.
 During the WORLD WAR 1, the force
provided 23 officers and 3,174 soldiers to
gorkha regiments of Indian Army besides
whom they fought in europe and middle
east.
ASSAM RIFLES
 Presently Assam rifles consists of 46
battalions deployed all over the North-east
region with 50,000 personnel in it .
 Assam rifles conduct insurgency
operations in North-east and other areas
where deemed necessary , under control of
the army during peace and “proxy war”
 ensures security of the Indo-China and
Indo-Myanmar borders
 Indo-China borders.
 Assam rifles.
 The Assam rifles have traditionally
participated in all development activities of
the region and have helped in bringing the
people of this remote and Underdeveloped
region into the national stream.
TILL STUDY AND FUTURE PLAN
 Till this time I have studied overall structure and working
of paramilitary forces .
 I have collected all the data regarding the subject.
 Next I will be focusing on different aspects of defense
forces and will be studying them.
 During the study of this course I found it very interesting
.I wish , I will continue this study.
 I hope I will be able to learn different academic and
nonacademic topics on my own using skills taught in this
very course

     That timethese forces were known as “Cachar levy” .It undergone many changes like Cachar levy, assam military force, frontier police and lastly assam rifle.  During the WORLD WAR 1, the force provided 23 officers and 3,174 soldiers to gorkha regiments of Indian Army besides whom they fought in europe and middle east.

     Presently Assamrifles consists of 46 battalions deployed all over the North-east region with 50,000 personnel in it .  Assam rifles conduct insurgency operations in North-east and other areas where deemed necessary , under control of the army during peace and “proxy war”  ensures security of the Indo-China and Indo-Myanmar borders

     The Assamrifles have traditionally participated in all development activities of the region and have helped in bringing the people of this remote and Underdeveloped region into the national stream.

    TILL STUDY ANDFUTURE PLAN  Till this time I have studied overall structure and working of paramilitary forces .  I have collected all the data regarding the subject.  Next I will be focusing on different aspects of defense forces and will be studying them.  During the study of this course I found it very interesting .I wish , I will continue this study.  I hope I will be able to learn different academic and nonacademic topics on my own using skills taught in this very course
