PERSONAL BRANDING
We have an advantage:
we do this everyday...
The story of how
I got my dream
job using
personal
branding on
LinkedIn...

What is LinkedIn?
NETWORKING
JOB OPPORTUNITIES
LEARNING
Your
Competition Is
Using It
Every month, more and more job
candidates are using LinkedIn to
research potential employers, network
with current employees, and apply to
new companies.

It’s easy to get
started, this isn’t
a science.
You don’t need
to understand
metrics...
LinkedIn is the best platform for
college students, during their
collegiate career and after
graduation.
Breaking It Down
LinkedIn Is Easy To Use
Once You Learn About The
Fundamental Tools
Available
Profile
Platform Search
Groups

● Text Posts
● Video
● Images
● Live Streams
Job Search
YOUR PROFILE
Your profile is the “billboard” that recruiters use
to evaluate who you are.
Your Profile
Tells A Story
Your Resume
Can’t Julia Valerio
Describe yourself and highlight why the
recruiter should care. You have more
room to do this on a daily basis. You aren’t
limited to just what’s on your resume.
Team Manager
Your Profile Is
Easy To Build
Summary Section
Content (Articles)
Work Experience
Education
Skills
Recommendations
Accomplishments
Interests
● Companies/Publications
● Influencers
● Groups
Your summary has to answer: Who is this person? How do I contact them?
Writing articles is the best way to build content on the platform and it helps grow your profile
overtime
Having articles showcasing what you know and what you’re learning about shows
authority (other candidates won’t do this)
When filling out your experience section highlight your accomplishments first, then
your general tasks
BONUS: Technical certifications in your field should be added as well. At the bare minimum, you can
take online courses related to necessary skills used in your job, through LinkedIn
Skills are mainly used for optimizing your profile ranking in the SEARCH BAR when
recruiters search for candidates by skills/keywords
Don’t forget to add your languages and education (college or above)
Recommendations help highlight your skills by using past co workers. They are
“mini letters of recommendation”
Hack: the best way to get recommendations is to give them first, then ask!!!
The last section of your profile is your groups and interests. We’ll get into more
detail later
PLATFORM SEARCH
LinkedIn is also a research platform (remember, you can learn anything you want on it)
Search link on desktop: https://www.linkedin.com/search/results/index/
GROUPS
Groups allow you to network with and learn from industry professionals all over
the world
Before posting or commenting in any group: 1. Read the group rules 2. Scroll
through the feed to see what’s being shared
At the bottom of people’s profiles, you can see which groups they are in the “Interests” section (very
bottom of the profile)
Groups are
important
because...
They allow you to network
with people in your field
that you don’t know!
You can share content with
industry professionals and
learn from the content that
they share!
Job opportunities are
posted in groups!
DIRECT MESSAGES
It goes down in the DMs...When messaging people, always ask for info, not to get a job
A good resource for getting
started with messaging
other professionals:
Article on “Interviewing
For Information”
CONTENT
Content Is Easy
To Make
Start with the essay assignments
that you get from your classes. If
they aren’t relevant to your field,
assign yourself your own “work
essays.”
450-750 Words
4-5 Paragraphs
What do you know?
What are you learning?
Documenting your journey
*If you want to spice things
up, LinkedIn now supports
videos and live streams!!!

The best way to edit: 1. Have a friend proofread it for you 2. Read it out loud

GROUPS: A GREAT
PLACE TO SHARE YOUR
CONTENT
Aside from just publishing content on your profile, you can also share the links to
original content and content you’re learning from in your groups to start
conversations
Create an editorial calendar to repost your articles on a weekly basis. You can
leverage them way past the first time they are published.
